I'm faced with a dilemma. I'm trying to decide my major - i either want to major in bio, or psychology. If i major in bio, i'll knock out the premed requirements, and i'll also fulfill the bio major requirements (obviously). If i major in psych., i'll have to satisfy the psych major requirements, and the premed requirements. I'm leaning towards psych because of my genuine interest in it, but bio just seems like it will just make so much more sense because the bio major at my school = premed requirements... I know everyone says to major in what you want to major in, but if i stick with psych, i'll have to take a LOT more classes than i would have to take with a bio major... What do you think would be the better choice?

Major in psych (what you like) and take your pre-med requirements on the side. At my school, there's this 'prehealth thematic minor' or something that is basically the pre-med reqs. So you major in whatever you want and tack on the minor if you wanna go to med school. Check your psych reqs, is there any flexibility that allows you to substitute premed reqs for electives or something?

I am majoring in psychology with a concentration in behavioral neuroscience and this has a biology minor built into it. This has most of the premed requirements in it. At least at the school I go to. Your major is up to you though.

Sit down with an advisor and tell them what you've told us. They can show you, specifically, what majoring in psychology vs. biology would look like in terms of your courseload. It might be somewhat more convenient to major in biology, but majoring in psychology with the premed requirements on the side will not be any great hardship. In fact, it may well be less work overall than majoring in bio (even if it is a couple of more classes). I'm not saying it's a good thing or a bad thing to be "easier", but regardless, in my opinion it doesn't make sense to avoid pursuing psychology for fear of it being too much work.

Do you even know for sure that you'll end up taking more classes if you major in psychology? Maybe you'll just have fewer electives than if you'd majored in biology.

I know you're tired of hearing the cliche, but I really think it bears repeating: study what you love.

Why exactly is it bad thing that you'll have to take a lot of non-major courses if you major in psych? Is it because you want to graduate early, do another major or minor, or fit in studying abroad?

Obviously this is something only you can decide, but I recommend psych if you'll like it more. There are definitely other things to consider though.

Sounds like you want to do psych.
Choose the one you like more = more likely to do better = better GPA = good for med school
