This is a long post but please read it and help my friend!!!
My friend is in desperate need and needs your help in this matter. She and her husband did not have any medical insurance but she was having some medical problems and couldn't get any appointments from any of the local hospitals since she didn't have any insurance. So upon her friend's suggestion, she got an appointment at a hospital in a nearby state and the hospital agreed to pay for her expenses if she was a resident of the state the hospital was in. So she gave them her friend's address and told them that she lived there so basically she falsely claimed to be a resident of the state the hospital was in so she wouldn't have to pay for any expenses. Well, it turns out now that she needs a hysterectomy because she has uterine fibroids. But before the surgery takes place, the hospital requires proof of residence, income etc. but since she is not a resident of the state the hospital is in and knows that the hospital will find out about it soon enough, she has decided not to get the surgery since she is afraid that the hospital can sue her for fraud. Now she wants to tell her OB/GYN about the whole situation but is afraid that he might tell the hospital and she would get in trouble. What should she do since the doctors have told her she really needs the surgery. Should she tell her doctor or would that have any consequences?
