I need to make this decision in the next day please help me decide

im in my senior year and i am taking this 6.0 credit pharmacology course

1. i can either withdraw from it,

2. i can post pone an assessment and have the course marked as incomplete on my transcript to aamc/acomas( until i write the assment again which would be way passed the application cycle so it will just show up as incomplete)

3.or i receive a 3.0 on the course. I have basically gotten 4.0s in all my courses and pre reqs, so this would drop my total gpa to like a 3.93 and my sceince gpa to a 3.86. i know med schools really do not like down ward gpa trends.

What should i do?

Here are other "red flags" in my transcript: i have only one withdrawn summer course (because i missed the deadline) but i took that course again the following semester and got a 4.0 on it. Also i am in my senior year right now but i am takign 3 courses instead of 5 for my last semester (i have taken a full course load of 5 courses throughout all my previous semesters tho)

note to moderators: i appologize I made a simialr post on the 2024-2025 med application cycle, it was an accident idk how to delete it. please do not take this post down i need answers

IMO, one B will not kill you. You do not need a 4.0 to get into med school. Take a deep breath, you will be okay!

Also, just FYI, a withdraw is not necessarily a red flag, I have 2 on my transcript and have been fine.

I’ll let some of the adcoms give you their advice, but I don’t think you need to withdraw since a B in the course won’t be detrimental

its not just about the B, its also about a decreasing GPA trend

A B is not a red flag. You are a senior and should know what to do.

I don't know if you are in the drop/add period, but if you want to drop it, it won't be on your transcript. Again, you should know this.

Is your term GPA going to fall below 3.0? That would be concerning.

is it a lesser of a red flag than a withdrawn?

i said if i dont withdraw from the course i would get a 3.0 on for that course and my science gpa would drop from like a 3.95 to a 3.86, total gpa to like a 3.93 from almost a 4.0

Your term GPA is well above 3.00.

You are reacting like you are panicked that you only breathe 40 times a minute vs 35. Or your heart rate is 70 rather than 65.

Showing that you are withdrawing than taking a GPA hit is also a red flag. Stop going down this path.

When someone has a high GPA like yourself, small fluctuations are okay. Just because you have one semester that's a little lower than the one before it, that does not equate a downward trend. I had 4.0 semester followed by a 3.79 semester. I am still alive today to talk about it.

also what about an incomplete? is that the least suspect?

I am going to disagree, if only slightly, with the posts above. I agree with the posters above that a single B is not a big red flag, and also suspect that a single B--even in a six credit course--will not have a major effect on your overall GPA when you graduate. However, ad coms will not care a wit about a couple of Ws on your transcript. If the B is going to put your anxiety into overdrive, take the W.

I agree, but it's not clear if the OP is still in drop/add. If he drops the class before the deadline, the W and the class won't even appear on the transcript! Best solution! As a senior, the OP should know this!

That is not a drop or a decreasing trend. Your tiny dip in GPA is a fluctuation. It is not a drop or a trend.
Don't panic. Take the B along with a deep breath. Your GPA is not going to keep you out of medical school.

Take the B. Applying with a 4.0 and two or more Ws does raise the suspicion of perfectionism and that is worse than a 3.86 that used to be a 4.0.

You don't have a downward trend. If anything, you finally took a course that really challenged you and you came out with a respectable grade.
