Hi everybody,

I just got my first set of mcat scores back: 30 S (10PS, 10V, 10 BS). I have narrowed down my school list based on the MSAR stats as well as a list of stats of students who have applied to medical schools after attending my UG university (Michigan). I am a New York resident of Asian Indian ethnicity and the following are my stats:

shadow, ENT/Plastic Surgeon shadow, Children's Psychiatric hospital
internship)

Over 100 hours of hospital volunteering (children's psychiatric hospital)

Finance Chair of tobacco/HIV awareness organization for 3 years (Went
on 2 month trip to educate schoolchildren in India)

Worked in social psych research lab for a year, and have started
working in a biopsych lab

volunteer by cooking/feeding ppl at ronald mcdonald house as part of
local organization

James B. Angell scholar (Straight A's for two or more sems)

Member of Golden Key Honor Society (Top 15% gpa at U of M)

Member of Delta Epsilon Iota honor society (career oriented/volunteer society)

Member of U of M Honors Program

Community Events Annual Chair of Indian Dance Competition (cultural
volunteering?)

Here are the schools which I have so far:

Albany MC
New York MC
U of Buffalo
SUNY Downstate
SUNY Upstate
SUNY Stony Brook
Rosalind Franklin
Rush MC
U of I at Chicago
Tulane
Boston
Michigan
Michigan State
Toledo
Jefferson MC
Penn State
MC of Wisconsin

Does anyone have any additions or omissions that they recommend?

Thanks!

I think the list is good - maybe a bit on the safe side. Your toughest school seems to be Boston. Boston really likes research, and it seems you are not published - or presented a poster or abstract or anything. Combined with a 30 MCAT, I think you would be hard put to land in Boston. I would try schools ranked similarly, that aren't as big a fan of research.

I don't know which state you are from. If you are from IL, keep Rush, if not, drop it. If you are from NY, keep all your NY schools. If not, drop Upstate, maybe also Buffalo.

I think your list is good. Add a couple of reaches if you like. There are reaches all over the country with similar qualities. Just picking geographically is a reasonable thing to do.
