I think is temromandibular ligament , the stylomand. does'nt play important role, in rotation or traslation

collateral capsular ligaments and temporomandibular ligaments.

In decks: "TM ligament restricts downward and posterior movement of the mandible and guides the forward motion of the condyle during opening".

Please help me with functions of all ligaments and muscles related to TMJ.....I think it is going to help so many people on sdn.

thanks ...why dont u share ur knowledge about TMJ and its ligaments, muscles of mastication????

guys .. tmj is very imp topic .. so I would suggest pls read first5/6 chapters of okeson throughyl. It will clear your concepts n make answering easy.

Yeah even i know that we have to study TMJ from okeson but i think we all should discuss this topic. We can discuss function of all ligaments and muscles individually. It is going to help us. So please share ur knowledge..

I found stylomandublar ligament helps closing mouth.

I believe this will help return to normal disc position more precisely.

Can you explain more about how it really works?

Ok..sorry but you guys get me stuck!! I am curious about it. What is translation?

Sounds like......rotational movement--->translational movement????

BTW,
Can anybody explain what it does when we open our mouth or when we don't move our mouth? Nothing?

Rotational movement means opening and closing movements..And translational movement means sliding the lower jaw forward or side to side.

and when we open our mouth condyles move downward and forward [translation is performed].

The height of the lingual cusps of mand 1st molar accomodate which of the following ??
1. centric relation,
2.working movement
3.protrusive movement
4.non working movement
5.maximum intercuspation
