Hey, my friend is curious if he should pick MSUCOM or KCUMB...

-He said he could really see himself at KCUMB when he interviewed. I should also probably mention that his girlfriend is going to KCUMB and is a HUGE support factor for him...the only thing that bothered him was that none of the students could think of something that they didn't like about the school. They also don't participate in the ranking system against other schools...(which he thinks is sketchy although i really don't think that matters too much)

-At MSUCOM his tour group wasn't treated to nicely and he didn't like the environment as much. However, MSUCOM has a 100% match rate whereas KCUMB is lower although still good. Also, MSUCOM is ranked #4 whereas KCUMB doesn't participate in ranking. He wants to have all opportunities when he goes on to clinicals and rotations...so this is a big deal i guess to him.

I'm trying to give him unbiased advice, but would someone else try? I feel like I'm a broken record on what I've been telling him and he's still split down the middle at the schools 😛

THANKS! 🙂

They're both good schools.

From what I've read, MSUCOM has a better network of affiliated residencies... And I'd rather be in Mich than in Kansas City. Just my 2 cents.

BUT i think he should stick with the S/O at KCUMB and bc he feels the most comfortable there.

Tough choice haha i have no idea

I'd take living in KC over Michigan any day.

That being said, he's gonna be a doctor...he needs to start making decisions at some point...might as well start now.

dont forget MSUCOM is rated #4 in the US for primary care...

That's an important thing to note. Lots more students at MSUCOM go into primary care than students at KCUMB. As I recall, about 50% of students at KCUMB specialize, whereas it seems like 30% or so at MSUCOM do. If he's not at all interested in primary care, he might feel more at home at KCUMB.

Also, is he a MI resident? MSU's oos tuition is huge. If he's instate, though, he'd probably save a lot of money by going to MSU.

Tell him not to go to msucom, that way I have a better chance of getting off the waitlist 🙂.

I MET HIM AT THE KCUMB INTERIVEW!!!
not sure about names and i won't drop them on sdn but i believe he had a very poor interview at rosalind franklin and got into ccom but cancelled them 😡

I also remember him mentioning his gf. If it was the one experience at msu he did not like i HIGHLY advise him to go there one more time. take a different tour. with a different group. if he still has the same feelings, obviously is not the right place to be.
better hurry, kcumb is demanding 2 grand by end of feb!
