Hi, I made the mistake of being too ambitious with my school list this cycle and underestimated the time for writing my secondaries. I will have to reapply.
I really need help with my school list given my info!! Thank you so much in advance.
1) cGPA and sGPA as calculated by AMCAS or AACOMAS
BCPM GPA: 3.96 / AO GPA: 3.98 / total GPA: 3.96
My major is engineering physics, 127 credit hours from all the extra classes.
2) MCAT score(s) and breakdown. Include all (non-voided) attempts.
516 MCAT: 130/126(CARS)/130/130
3) State of residence or country of citizenship (if non-US)
Illinois resident, Greater Chicago Area!
4) Ethnicity and/or race
Asian (Korean)
5) Undergraduate institution or category
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Engineering Physics)
6) Clinical experience (volunteer and non-volunteer)
Non-volunteer:
3 research groups (full-time over 3 summers, continuous throughout 3 academic years), 2 co-authored publications, one in Nature
1700 hours
8) Shadowing experience and specialties represented
Orthopedics, in clinic and OR
Plan to shadow other specialties in the next 3 months
family medicine, pediatrics, ob/gyn, gastroenterology
9) Non-clinical volunteering
Court Appointed Specialist Advocate: legal advocates for foster children (300 hours)
Meal Service & Food Pantry volunteer (150 hours)
Jail Librarian (150 hours)
10) Other extracurricular activities (including athletics, military service, gap year activities, leadership, teaching, etc)
Academic tutor for middle and high school students (post-grad full time job, 2000 hours)
Teaching assistance for four courses in chemistry, physics, and linear algebra - (650 hours)
NASM certified personal trainer - (300 hours)
11) Relevant honors or awards
Clare Boothe Luce Scholar $12K for research (8 students chosen every year)
~$30K total in research scholarships over 3 years of research in undergrad (applied to a lot of grants and wrote a lot of proposals)
12) Anything else not listed you think might be important
First gen, former foster child, immigrant, paid my way through college without family support
financially supported an older sibling during a crisis, which resulted in withdrawal that semester
Medical School List (so far, too long):
I tried to stay away from public and in-state bias schools (except Illinois ofc). Because I was too ambitious the first round and applied to top 20 schools, I'm going extra conservative this time by having the highest average MCAT be 518/519.
