Howdy Y'all. Looking for some feedback on school list as well as general advice for the upcoming application season.

  1. cGPA: 3.36, sGPA AMCAS: 3.516 sGPA, sGPA AACOMAS 3.864 (AACOMAS doesn't view math as sGPA)
  2. 517 MCAT: 130 CP, 130 CARS, 129 BB, and 128 PS
  3. TX Resident
  4. ORM White
  5. Flagship state university
  6. 300 hours working as a caregiver/CNA for assisted living center. Very impactful to care for all manner of basic needs.
  7. 275 hours working in biomedical engineering lab researching medical devices, 1 poster presentation.
  8. 100 hours all in shadowing, 50 with Meds-Peds doctor, 25 with interventional cardiologist, and 25 with orthopedic surgeon.
  9. 400 hours, Extended volunteering in the Children's Ministry at my church as a leader, roughly 300 hours, and serving in a local food kitchen semi regularly, roughly 100 hours.
  10. Served as a TA grader for multiple semesters, was on leadership for my fraternity for a year, and am highly involved in a theological society.
  11. N/A, except maybe National Merit Commended? I don't find that compelling.
  12. A couple key points of note: I understand that my application has "splitter" like tendencies. I studied Engineering and minored in pre medicine, the engineering classes have ultimately been a detriment to my GPA but I am still passionate about the field and medical device research for medical school. What advice would you have for application strategy or school list? is MD school attainable? I plan to apply to all TMDSAS schools, but would appreciate advice on narrowing down schools OOS that would look favorably on my profile. I am prepared to apply as broadly as necessary.

Here's my tentative school list sorted by MD and DO:

Utah, Arizona Tucson, UNLV are more friendly to those from Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and California.
See the qualifying states for UNLV in red text in this post: here
EVMS accepts mostly regional applicants
You could add Arizona State, a new (starts this year) school which values engineering. and Carle Illinois (likewise engineering + med)
Texas A&M EnMed also values engineering and is on a separate checkbox on the TMDSAS app.

You mention you will be a reapplicant, did you apply really late or something this time? Your application looks pretty strong to me

Thanks for the feedback! Will adjust my plan. A calamity of errors on my end led to a weak showing this application cycle, and I really do have some meaningful reflection why I want medicine more because of it. Late application combined with weak writing led to me receiving 0 IIs in the TMDSAS process. This will be the first time I apply to OOS schools, and I want to do everything I can to avoid a 3rd cycle.

Definitely rethink your essays and submit your TMDSAS app in June to all the TX schools + EnMed.
Don't make EVERY essay about being a reapplicant - there is a special small essay in TDSAS now to use to explain how you have added to your application since last time.

Do your homework.

Don't be sloppy, and start looking at secondary essay prompts if you're going to do OOS applications. Don't repeat your mistakes with AMCAS or AACOMAS. No more excuses.
