My stats are follows:
GPA overall is a 3.92 and science is around there too.
My mcat however is a 25P: 6 V 9P 10B
Went to community college and got my AS
Transferred to a 4 year university
Have good EC's and currently doing a full time summer research internship.
Illinois resident. I plan to turn in my AMCAS by June 18th latest.

Please don't suggest retaking because I don't plan to as this was my retake.
I hope to stay in ILlinois, so CCOM is my only choice, but here is my list so far

PCOM
CCOM
OSUCOM
MSUCOM
New Jersy School of Osteo. Medicine.

Please offer any suggestions. THANKS

You shouldn't have too much of a problem getting into a DO school somewhere. Your MCAT is about average (that 6 could raise red flags at some places) and your GPA is way above the average. I'm just curious though...are at least half of your credits from the 4-year university or did you get the AS and then do a full 4 years at a university?

I'd also toss DMU into your list; it's a great school, and probably the closest DO school to where you live, other than CCOM obviously, and maybe MSUCOM.

Good luck!

The verbal score is a little low of course, but your GPA is pretty good. If your EC's are good and you interview well you shouldn't have any problems. How are your LOR's? Shadow a DO and get a good LOR and you should be able to get into any one of those schools. What state are you from? MSUCOM might give preference to in-state, I'm not sure about the others.

Oh, you are from IL. I should have read closer.

Actually I transferred my credits to my four year university. At my four year university I completed some courses that allowed me get my Associate degree. But I did 2 years at the CC and 2 years at the university.

If you are willing to look at New York schools you could apply to NYCOM as well as Touro New York (granted it is a new school only in its second year.)

I also would consider throwing DMU onto your list. I graduated from their in May and had a great experience overall. A lot has changed so consider contacting someone there currently to see what they have to say. Des Moines is very cheap to live in, and even in the worst traffic it only takes 20 minutes to get anywhere in the city. Good luck!

I'd say maybe throw western in there as well. I don't know though. I know you don't want to hear it, but with your stats I'd say retake the MCAT. You just have to get your verbal up and then you'd have a really good chance at an allopathic. Unless you're really passionate about osteopathic that's what I'd recommend. I don't think you'll have any problem at the schools on your list. Good luck!

DMU and KCUMB would be good additions. From what I know, isn't OSU REALLY state heavy?

woodhorse,
You numbers are very similar to my wife's and she was offered six acceptances, including CCOM. The key is to apply early and apply broadly (the pre-med mantra). You've got the early application nailed (if you really do so by the 18th), so that helps. However, don't limit yourself to a handful of schools. I'd add KCOM, DMU and KCUMB for their proximity to IL. I'd also research schools outside your region and apply to a bunch that you would actually like to attend, regardless of them being outside of the midwest. If I were in your shoes, I'd apply to 10-12 schools. Just remember, the application fees will be the cheapest part of the process. Interview travel and related expenses are what will break the bank. If you get an acceptance offer before you've gone to some interviews, that will be the time to be selective.

Definitely add DMU to your list, OP. It's really one of the best - especially since you want to stay near IL. If you get to interview there, you'll probably fall in love with it (most people do). Also add KCUMB - another good one, sorta near there.
Apply early, early!
:luck:

unless you are an oklahoma resident or have a strong connection to oklahoma, i would not consider OSUCOM. they have a very strong in state pref. most in state applicants are interviewed, very few OOS applicants are given the time of day. i'd look at KC, CCOM, DMU, DCOM (if the reviews from us first year students are good, and i imagine they will be), Western, etc. Apply broadly and good luck!
