Hey guys, I have a problem filling out the AMCAS. When asked what major I have, I can't find it in the list AMCAS provides. Also, my college not only have majors, minors, but also specialist programs. I don't see that option. I'm an immunology specialist, so what should I choose? Thanks alot, guys!!

What is a "specialist program?" I've never heard of that.

I suggest you call AMCAS and talk to one of their "specialists." I don't have the phone number with me but if you dig around, you would find it somewhere. Anyone has the phone number for AMCAS, pls post it here for jojo.

just pick "other." they let you type the full name in anyway.

thanks alot, guys. a specialist program is a program where you have to have 14 immunology related credits, out of the 20 credits that you must complete in order to graduate. I guess i'll just call amcas... thanks again.

no need to call AMCAS.
If you read the section on DEGREE/MAJOR, it says that you can pick the name of something "close" to your actual major for the first answer.
Then right below that you have "MODIFIED NAME" where you can type in the actual major you had. And according to AMCAS, it is THIS entry under "MODIFIED NAME" that gets reported to medical schools. So just make sure you find the screen for degree that says "modified name" and type in your stuff and you're good to go. 🙂

See? I bet i saved you one hour of AMCAS nonsense. 🙂

i would still recommend picking "other" over choosing something close to your major. last year, the application only listed the major and not the modified name on the printed version of the app. i'm not sure how it looked to the schools (regardless of what amcas says), but i preferred having it listed as other so that they would actually look somewhere else in the app to see what my major was, as opposed to just looking at what was listed and assuming that was my major.

it's your choice, of course. 🙂
