Hi guys,

Can someone please help me out with these questions, thanks guys!!!!!

1) can you guys please direct me to the latest edition of rohen's anatomy book. is it called the color atlas of anatomy:a photograqphic study of the human body? Soes this have real cadaveur pictures, not just cartoons like netter's?

2)also, I have netter's atlas for anatomy, but is there a textbook with it? or are all anatomy books just atlases?

3) is aclands video of dissection the one everyone seems to like the best?

also, can someone tell me the latest editions of the above books too. I went on amazon, and am a first time user of online stuff, so I don't know where even to find the latest editions available.

thank you!!!!!!!! good luck this year

Yes, Rohans has pictures. Netters is an atlas -- you use it to accompany study of the body. Textbooks are not really used in med school. Moore's is probably the closest to a text you can find. But you will probably just use the noteset you will inevitably get in school as your primary resource. I know nothing about dissection videos -- there is no substitute for doing (and botching) it yourself. I wouldn't worry too much about latest editions -- the body doesn't change too much year to year. Use whatever edition your school indicates and don't bother buying stuff till you get there and find out from upper classmen what you really need. Hope that helps.

thanks, law2doc!!

The 6th edition is the most current. The isbn number is 0781790131. You can search http://froogle.google.com/ for isbn: 0781790131 and see what you find, if you want to buy it online. I looked for a cheaper paperback international edition, but couldn't find one.

thanks,

do you know of acland's videos by any chance?

also, do you know of any book with more text (like this bone or ligament is responsible for doing this etc). grants vs. moore vs. grays?

i just like some background bc it helps me remember anatomy better if i know what the function is.

sorry for the other post with the same question. hope you guys are enjoying anatomy.

Hey, I'm only a lowly 1st year but I had the privaledge of taking gross anatomy with a cadaver dissection as an undergrad so I think I have a pretty good handle on what books are worth the cash and which aren't. This is my personal combo for anatomy:

Netters Atlas
Rohen Photographic Atlas (a friend had this for my undergrad class and we used it soooo much, very very helpful)
Moore's Clinical Anatomy for text to reference when confused
BRS Anatomy to test myself
Netters Flash cards so I don't have to waste time making them

I'm lucky enuf to have someone giving me the moore text so that is saving me some money. I bought the latest edition of Netters because apparently the previous one had some labeling mistakes.

thanks!

it looks like you had a lot of experience. do you think little moore's is fine or should i get the big one, i don't want to put myself at a disadvantage by getting the small one.

also, should i forget about grays/grant? thanks again.

Just my opinoin, mostly for the sake of those considering buying Moore's: Don't. Unless you have a very early, very high-level exposure to clinic or you have oodles of time to read...don't get this book until second or third year. Don't get me wrong, there is good stuff in there, but I it's only now that I have enough background and my day a week of E.R. that I can actually use the material.

Just my .02.... You deftinately want Netter, though.

I'm not familiar with Acland, but you can watch dissection videos online for free:

http://www.anatomy.wisc.edu/courses/gross/index.html

there was a thread about the DVDs a couple of weeks back. You can also find the full DVDs on demonoid.com. I watched a couple of sections after burning them and they seem pretty helpful, but we'll see come sept.

I dont like the new version of Rohen. I have the 5th edition and the pictures have the normal list of all the structures in the picture, but in bold are the main structures that they want to show you in that particular picture. In the 6th ediction, it is just the normal list of like 10-25 structures all in the same font. It sounds like a minor feature, but it is much more helpful to have those bolded structures, trust me.

Since this is a PRN text for most, I recommend using the library copy and saving money.
