I am currently a junior at Boston College and I am thinking about applying to medical school next year. My gpa (science is around 3.5, cumulative around 3.6), and my mcat score is a 31. I have tons of research experience (had internships for two summers and currently working with a professor). My ECs arent bad either (EMT, irish dance ensemble, tutor). But I do have 1 F (orgo, which I retook and got an A-), 1 W (I was overloading that semester so I had to drop a course), and 1 C+ (no excuses there) in an upper level chem class.

I'm sorry if this sounds like another typical "what are my chances" thread, but I really want to know if I should pursue in applying to medical schools (ones in Texas, such as the one in UT San Antonio, Dallas, where the average gpa is around 3.6 etc). If my credentials are too weak, then I am thinking of getting an MS in biochemistry and finishing up my research with my professors.

Please any input would be very helpful, it is the season for giving 🙂

i don't get it. are you asking if you should apply to medical school? or are you asking if you should apply to medical schools in texas (b/c that's where you really want to go or you think those are easier to get into?).

your grade and GPA while not stellar do not put you into any severe disadvantage. you already proved that you made up for the F by retaking the class. one withdraw doesn't mean anything. it's not surprising to get a C+ in an upper division chemistry course.

apply broadly. meaning not just top 10 or even top 25 schools.

I think you have decent chance of getting in anywhere if you apply broadly.

i don't see why not!! just explain your those grades (F in orgo, etc), but you have a decent overall gpa.

where did all these eagles come from all of a sudden...

bc has a great premed office. use it.

Thank you guys soo muchh!!! I've been freaking out, three years have passed and I look at my gpa and its no where near what I expected it to be as a naive freshman. I plan on applying to schools in texas, but after reading this I'm also considering applying broadly to other places.
