I am having trouble receiving interviews. I am not sure what I need to do, such as retake pcat, masters program, etc. I have a 75 on my pcat with a 54 as my lowest sub component in reading. I did very well in the bio/chem/math with scores right at 88 and above. Do you guys think that I need to retake my pcat? i have a 3.00 overall oGPA and a 3.25 sGPA. I have my pharm tech certification and I currently work in microbiology lab full time. Thanks for all your input, it is appreciated.

Sorry I posted this in pcat discussion where it may not be as relevant as here.

According to your PreDents profile you have a oGPA 2.85 and sGPA 2.72 with two interviews already at dental schools.

Based from your stats from the post, it seems competitive to get some interviews. You might want someone to proofread your PS and get some volunteer/work experience in a pharmacy. I've seen people on this forum with lower stats on their PCAT and about the same GPA get into pharmacy school.

Im sorry I am posting for a friend. He is having trouble receiving interviews at pharmacy schools. disregard my dental stuff. sorry

My friend is mostly concerned about his pcat score and whether he should start preparing to retake or not.

His PCAT score isn't the only factor to be considered here. Besides getting the pharm tech license, does your friend have any pharmacy experience? Strong LORs & PS? Leadership experience?

If your friend does not get into pharmacy school this cycle, he can call the schools he didn't receive invites to and ask how to improve his application to become a stronger candidate for the next cycle.

Hey guys thanks for the input so far. Being a predent I understand that scores and gpa are not the only pieces to the puzzle. I don't know what a competitive pcat is. Seems that a 75 is better than 75 percent of people who took it with you,but not sure what the average is to get in. Seems to me that 75 would be fine. His GPA is slightly below average maybe, but with nice well rounded background it should not be that big of an issue. Am I right? He ask me for help and I don't want to give him any false hope about his statistical numbers. I will tell him to be working on strengthening his P.S. and looking for strong LOR's. Thanks again for belle and 30 cent who have chirped in so far!

I'm not 100% sure but I do believe that a composite score of 75 is slightly above average and it is above the minimum requirement for most schools. If his GPA is the issue, retaking classes would be a great way to boost up his GPA. If he doesn't know if he GPA is competitive, he needs to do a little research and check out the average GPA of accepted students for the schools he applied to.

I don't think your friend needs to retake his PCAT. My PCAT scores were in the same range and I received interview invitations from many schools. I guess the best thing to do right now would be to work on improving his GPA, gaining more experience in a pharmacy setting and obtaining solid LORs. Good luck! 🙂

PCAT score is solid! GPA is good, but room for improvement.

My recommendation would be volunteering. I think that was the cherry on top of my application. I volunteer at health fairs and I volunteered in a pharmacy. It also contributed to my leadership skills, and got me some wicked LORs!

Also...what schools is he applying for, that could be a big factor with his stats...maybe he is applying to schools that he is not quite competitive enough for statwise...? Maybe his personal statement is not very strong? Or his EC activities are not on par...really need more info to guage what his best coarse of action would be.

Not sure on the schools, I thought he mentioned Southwestern Okla State, Oklahoma Univ, Xavier, and a few more. Any schools that you guys would recommend off the top of your head? I told him to apply early, look into volunteer work, and start working on his personal statement to make it stronger. From what I gather here, his pcat does not seem to be an issue and GPA although on lower end is respectable. thanks to all.

I agree that many schools like well-rounded applicants. This means more than GPA and PCAT scores. As others mentioned, definitely add some extracurriculars into his/her background.

One thing I would add is for whatever your friend decide to get involved in, be sure to demonstrate that leadership quality and passion for pharmacy.
