I'm from the Caribbean, I came in the USA in march 2008, completely unaware of how medschool work here, I had decided to do nursing and then completed all the prerequisites, that is math, bio, physic, chem and so on before applying to medschool.

As I read some threads in on this forum, I suspect doing nursing will put me at a disadvantage. I was looking to major in biology and again biology major are less likely to be accepted in med-school. i know you can major in anything you want, what you major in is not really the problem.

I was looking into majoring in math(liberal art) since this is the only thing i would enjoy doing now. my question: how do med-school admission consider math major? I'm in a two years community college I can do liberal art and then transfer to a 4 years college to major in math while preparing the MCAT. is this recommended? what is the best course of action in here?

your advice will be appreciated.

I'm in 2 years college with a 4.0 GPA
and i'm ready to change my major(currently nursing)

Med school doesn't care about your major, as long as you excel in it and show your passion. Major in math, go ahead. Just remember to do your pre-reqs and you are good.

Congrats on your great GPA so far! I definitely suggest that you major in what interests you and that you can excel in. As long as you can keep your grades up, your best plan for med school is to transfer to a 4-year university and do the math major.

Thank you guys for your advice. I think I'll choose math as my major. Is there anyone here who major in math? how was it like?

If you think you can cut it as a math major then go for it. Major in something you like and will do well in. If you really like nursing then go for it, but it would be hard to get the pre=reqs done in that major, plus it is a fairly intense major.

FYI, most consider math to be a science, not a liberal art (not trying to be a know it all, I just thought you might want to know).
