Hi Everyone, congratulations to all of you who got accepted to a Dental school and good luck with people who are waitlisted and etc.
I have been waitlisted on my first choice school and its just very nerve-racking waiting till last minute to hear back whether I got in or not, so PLEASE whoever got accepted to multiple schools, just choose one of them and withdraw your applications from the other one, even if you paid the fee to reserve your spot...this will make people like me who are waitlisted to know where we stand in the process.. thank u

It makes little to no difference if they do this or not. You do realize that one person can only attend one school so at some point in time a person holding multiply spots is going to have to open spots at the school he/she doesn't go to. I know it is a nerve racking game waiting but at the same time it is even more nerve racking deciding where you want to go. If someone has more than one acceptance they deserve to think as long as they wish and if they pay deposits at multiply schools they are buying the right to have more time to decide, literally. So sit tight and don't make other rush their decision based on your wants.

I get that you're nervous waiting, but honestly, if you're going to get in you're going to get in. None of us hold multiple spots just to rub it in the faces of others. When those holding multiple spots have everything figured out, they will withdraw from the other schools.

Take a deep breath.

i dont understand why some people insist on rushing others. Even when i did not have a single acceptance, i tried to be objective and understood that there will be applicants out there that have multiple acceptances. These applicants that decide to pay a large amount of money to hold their spots at a few schools to try and decide and make one of the most important decisions of their lives. I am assuming these students dont enjoy spending thousands of dollar just to hold spots "for fun". ( i did not get accepted anywhere until mid january, so i understand how it feels to be wait listed, but i still understood that others have the right to take their time and decide.)

Before you guys burn him for making this kind of thread, just realize that he's desperate and doing everything within his power to get the wheels moving. If making a stupid thread on SDN will get him the acceptance at his #1, it's really not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.

op how many deposits are you holding?... exactly

hypocrite

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with most of the posters and side with the OP on this one. I'm currently on a couple waiting lists, so I might be a little bias. But I would never hold multiple spots at dental schools because I know what a horrible feeling this is.

Honestly, did people not do research on their schools before they applied? Most people already have a set idea of where they want to go when they apply to schools. You saw what the school is like during the interview, you've had close to two months since Dec. 01, let's get going with the process people. It doesn't take 2 months of research to figure out what a school's like. Take a deep breathe, look at the facts, and ask yourself where you want to go and be happy.

This is the reason why the med school system of matching works so much better. You figure out where everyone's going all at once and there's none of this waiting and hanging on to hope for half of the applicants.

The decision on where you go to dental school is one of the biggest decisions you will make in your life. We probably shouldn't be asking people to rush that decision simply to *possibly* put our minds at ease. At some point they will make their decision, and a spot will be freed up. Until then, be patient... and start working on next years application (just in case).

btw op is probably holding 2 deposits... or more.

so sad your situation... but listen... if you know where you wanted to go then why did you apply to multiple schools... why hold the waitlist spots in multiple schools why not just one... b/c you went their and looked at the school and you should just pick the one you like and stay in that waitlist only why hold multiple wait list positions... see does that make sense?...

the way i see it, if one were to let go of their seat now or later they will still lose the money or get the same amount back... so why not hold it longer to make a smart decision on where to go. see the ops problem is that he already got into multiple d-schools he is not happy w/ them... so he holding multiple spots and trying to rush everyone else very manipulative.

Every few weeks, we have this same thread, and they all end up in bickering with the same answers. Last time, chemboy got into some online argument or something.

Anyways, the simple answer is: Even with a simple reminder, many people take their time in this process, and nothing wll change people's minds. Just gotta wait it out and hope for the good news.

just because I make a post saying this it doesn't mean I am doing it..I withdraw my application from the other two schools I got accepted to even though I paid $1000 fee to reserve my spot in one of them...now I only have a spot in a school that i am guaranteed that i am in and was about to move to until this waitlisting at my first choice came along!!!!
(I know couple of people who are holding spots in couple of schools especially the ones that have low fee of deposit, like the one i am waitlisted on which is only $35!!! )
I know its a hard decision to decide where to go to school, but you should have made a majority of the deciding when you were applying and not wait unitl june or july to decide!

That's a pretty bad analogy. I applied to multiple schools and holding wait list spots because I don't know if I got in anywhere. If I was accepted to a school, I'd drop everything and just go there. I applied to schools I want to go to so I would be happy with any of them.

I'm not supporting the OP because he wants to rush everyone to make a decision and be manipulative. I'm supporting the idea that people are making a huge amount of time deciding on where to go to dental school and it's holding the entire process up. I'm willing to be the majority of people holding spots are waiting for their dream school to open them a seat. And that dream spot is reserved by somebody waiting on another school. See what I'm saying? It's a terrible system because it's a huge roadblock for everyone.

It's not a hard choice choosing a dental school. You look just look at the basic things it boils down to. Price and location. Unless you have to choose between a totally crappy school and a awesome school, and that's a no brainer.

If choosing between going to Case vs. UPenn vs. UCLA is going to be the biggest decision in your life, then I would say it's going to be a pretty unfulfilling life. Just pick a place and go.

Like bing and peanutb said, nobody wants to hold a spot for fun. It's definitely not 'fun' to end up losing a few thousand dollars. However, this is definitely one of the most important choices we'll ever make.

I agree that is tough to wait, but posting this garbage will not make anyone decide any faster. If you have done enough to be accepted, you'll be accepted.

this whole thing is one huge trainwreck. Someone's probably wait listed at your school and waiting on you to make a choice...

Another useful thread. People are allowed to put multiple deposits down if they want. When people pick a school for sure, they will alert the others. Stop trying to pressure people. It's tough to make huge decisions in 15 days at this point. People don't put down deposits to just annoy people, they put them at schools they are interested in. They will eventually only pick 1 school, so please just calm down and respect people's decisions and the time they have to make them. You only make people upset by making these threads. Nobody reads this thread and goes "oh, maybe I shouldn't make this deposit at this school I'm on the fence about."

Yes, we do our research before we apply, but you can't know everything from reading on a website and going on a four-hour interview.

The people that have been accepted to multiple schools have earned it. They have every right to investigate and learn the most they can about each school. If they are willing and able to put multiple deposits down, they are certainly entitled to do that so they can make the best decision for themselves. If that process takes a few months, so be it.

AADSAS has a date (Apr. 1) that each of the dental schools can see who is holding multiple spots. At that point the applicants will have to decide where they are going. While it's not ideal for you to wait another five weeks, those accepted to multiple places have earned that time to decide.

if you do majority of the deciding before you apply... then the schools that you got accepted must be the top choice the schools that you wanted to attend...

then why create threads such as midwestern vs. nyu or threads such as this...

you are very manipulative person.

I'm holding multiple spots right now. For instance, I am holding a spot at the University of Washington. I honestly have no intention of attending, but probably will not tell them. They'll find out sooner or later.

So ummm why don't you tell them and make someone's life a little happier?

I really don't understand why you would just hold it if you have no intention of attending....

What happens when one wants to attend more than one school for possibly different reasons?

its for the op... thats what his manipulative thread is about. he got wait listed at that school.

to be honest... if op were to get in to his number 1 choice off the wait list he will hold all the schools until the last day... you can bet on it...

I agree 100%, that would be the rational decision. if you have nothing to lose, and can only gain, simple game theory would allow someone to assume that they would hold their spot until the absolute last min.

see what I am saying, this is the school I am waitlisted on!

I made that thread for NYU and Midwestern long time ago which helped me become more sure about my decision and withdrawn from the other one, otherwise like other people as we can see I could have hold that spot as well and let others wait for it!!!

As soon as I know my spot is guaranteed at UW I will withdraw from the other school! who are you calling manipulative..I bet that is who you are!! since u can't handle a suggestion then you start saying names...

I am not rushing anyone but it wouldn't be fair for people to hold spots until the last minute..

i dont understand why some people insist on rushing others.

With all due respect, I don't think he is rushing anyone. Most of us have a #1, #2 and #3 school in mind and by now, should have done all our research on the city, school and ... and practically know all we need to know.

So If I get an acceptance from my number 1 school, then there is no reason for me to hold on my number 2 and 3 !!

I totally understand what he is saying as he wants to move on with his life as well and make plans to move and get a place and ...

or you can do [''img'']YOUR IMAGE URL without '' [''/''img'']

Maybe some people don't have such a strict separation between schools? I've got into two schools which are tied for #2 so I want more time to decide. I've earned that right by putting forth effort for 4 years to make a solid application. I've done plenty of research, but it doesn't make the decision any easier. It's where people are going to be for the next 4 years of their life (or 3) and where they will always have their degree from, so it's a pretty big decision. People that complain about people holding multiple acceptances maybe should have worked a little harder and then they wouldn't face that problem.

It's a lot different too once you get acceptances. I know going into the cycle I had a neat chart of what my #1 school was and all the way down to #10..but it's a lot different when you get acceptances. Chill out. You were obviously put on the waitlist because there were more qualified applicants in front of you, so respect their efforts to become the more qualified applicant. They deserved it.

I'm also holding a seat at University of Washington.

Also, I lolled really hard AtlantaBraves.

Your degree is going to say DDS/DMD either way. It is easy choosing a school. You're just making it harder then it is. Cost and location if they're both tied at #2. Put jellybeans on a scale if you want to.

And if I'm on a waiting list at an ivy league dental school, I'm pretty sure i've worked damn hard enough to get there.

I know this is your right and all and I have personally no problem with it.
I guess it is easier for some people to make a decision about these things. I am still waiting for my number one but as soon as I got my number 2, I withdraw my application from my #3.

At the end, I think he is just frustrated about the unknowns and ...

I did get waitlisted at my #1 school. I respect the efforts of the students who were more competitive than me to make their decision. I'm not a rude, self-centered person.

Oh, and there's a lot more than cost and location to dental schools. Stop rushing people because you only care about a couple things in making your decision. Yeah it would be an easy decision if I just looked at those things. And there's multiple ways to look at location too. You aren't going to get much sympathy here.

Congrats on your waitlist. You're on a waitlist. Stop bothering people who were picked over you.

I'm not the OP. I was just suggesting KINDLY that people make a decision on schools in a reasonable time frame and don't forget that there are people waiting on them. I'm not knocking on doors and demanding answers. I just don't think its right for people to just have the "oh i'll just let the schools figure it out that I'm not going there" attitude when a quick email saying they want to withdraw speeds everything along.

Please tell me what's so vital that you're looking at that it must take several weeks. Trying to find mice in the sim labs?

Grammer police? Really, its the internet. Get over it.

Spelling police too. As far as taking several weeks, it's called I have a job and haven't had much free time to think about where I would rather live, family, curricula, weather, schedules, scholarships, etc. In my opinion, I will decide in a "reasonable time frame," but don't push people to decide when they may have other things going on in their lives that are more pressing.

Congrats to you for being able to make big decisions on a whim and due to a low number of factors. Congrats.

If the schools would help us by posting the tuition/fee rates for the 2011/2012 year instead of the current year we could make a quicker decision. Why not wait to (hopefully) find out how much tuition is going up at the schools you are holding spots? If I find out the school I was going to choose earlier suddenly jacks tuition up by 20% I'm going to reconsider the options.

When do they release that information? That's a good tip; I didn't think they would release it until quite a bit later though. I know I won't be putting more than one second deposit down thats for sure though. So expensive.

Depends on the state, or school if it's private. I know last year we found out that Colorado was jacking tuition up by 9% in March when the legislature passed it. I'm betting on the same this year, just hoping they don't repeal the maximum 9% increase law which prevents them from raising it more than that...

If choosing between going to Case vs. UPenn vs. UCLA is going to be the biggest decision in your life, then I would say it's going to be a pretty unfulfilling life. Just pick a place and go.

If you're willing to shell out hundreds of thousands of dollars and four years of your life without giving the receiving institution much thought, what does that say about you?

The process is different for everyone and there are always multiple factors and details that strangers over the internet are not privy too.
