Hi folks,

Thank you for reading this post. I really appreciate it. I need you to read my GPA and DAT stats and the schools I have applied to, and please let me know what my chances are.

GPA:
BCP: 3.22
Science: 3.24
Non-Science: 3.16
Overall: 3.21

DAT:
RC: 22
BIO: 20
CHEM: 19
SCIENCE TOTAL: 20
ACADEMIC AVERAGE: 20
PAT: 19
SOAP CARVING: 26

Schools applied to: Meharry, Howard, Detroit Mercy, Maryland, Temple, UOP, NOVA.

So here are my two questions for you all:

1) What are my chances in getting into any of the dental schools I applied to?

2) Can you recommend other dental schools I should apply to?

3) Do US dental schools ignore the worst year or only take the best two or three years or anything like that?

Please I would appreciate feedback from ALL of you on this forum. I'm stressed about all this and need some help.

Thank you all in advance

I attempted to collect my thoughts before responding, and so I will begin by letting you know that this melodramatic plea for help does little on this site. I'm sure you will get some posts in regards to what some better schools to apply to may be, but other than that, don't expect much in terms of truly accurate, and helpful advice.

I say all this only because I have been through it myself, and i ask you to consider who it is that your audience is. That's right, a bunch of predental students who other than looking at predents and ada guide can't shed any more insight on your chances than you can.

I suppose to humor you, I can tell you that you have an average DAT and a slightly below gpa, but that says nothing about your chances. I suggest you begin letting the schools you have applied to know who you are, because an average app. with avg stats leaves a lot to be desired from an admissions committee.

With the competition that DS applicants have faced for the past 5 years, an application that does not stand out can easily by pushed aside. Sorry for any blunt, harsh comments and good luck.

I think you should apply to more schools especially private once such as NYU and Boston.

Thank you two for replying to my post. I really do appreciate it.

I know asking questions in this forum will not necessarily yield factual answers, but a lot of people are way more knowledgeable and experienced in applying to dental schools than me. So I thought it could be helpful to seek advice who know more than me.

As far as applying to more schools like Boston and NYU. I avoided applying to them because they are far far too expensive for me, and me being a Canadian student, I will not be able to obtain enough student loans from the Canadian banks to complete my education at those institutions.

More replies from anyone would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Hey

Have you ever been to predents.com? It's a very useful website that many pre dental students on this forum use. My cGPA is very high but my sGPA is borderline 3.0. I go to the site to compare myself to the students who have been accepted to get a better idea of what schools I should apply to. It also has info about out of state applicants and tuition.

Good luck

As the above poster said, I would recommend checking out Predents, and be aware that the average stats for the accepted students is usually higher than the actual average of incoming students.
