Hello Everyone,

I really need your help. I am taking the real DAT this saturday (2/14/04) and I took the Kaplan course and I also just bought Top Score (only had it for 2 days so far). Here are my scores:

Kaplan Final/Kaplan Integration Workshops:
NS:14
Bio:16
Gchem:13
Ochem:14
PAT:21/22
RC:17/18
QR:14/16

Top Score:
NS: 14
Bio:15
Gchem:14
Ochem:12
PAT:19
I didn't do RC and QR yet...

What do you all think will be my apporximate Real DAT scores and what should I do at this stage (with only a few days left) to better prepare? Also, I already applied to Nova and Tufts ( Nova is just waiting for my scores) and I was wondering what would be my chances with scores like these?

My advice would be to reschedule the DAT and take it when you are more prepared. I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but realistically those scores (other than the PAT) are not very good and will not get you into most schools. In fact most schools have a minimum score of a 14 for any section.

People have found that Top Score is a fairly accurate portrayal of your real scores (generally speaking--obviously not always), with a little variation of a point or two higher or lower depending on the section.

I would keep studying until you really know the material. It's most likely too late to be accepted for the entering class of 2004 anyway. My advice would be to study for several months and apply this June/July for next year. Good luck!

you read my mind exactly.

to OP, not to be rude or anything, i would study another month before i take the test if i were you. no need to waste that $$ and not do well. give yourself another month and practice on topscore at least every 2-3 days and review the things you aren't good at every night. (just a quick review).

topscore is almost like the real thing and it will really help you if you use it for more than 2 days.

I think tomorrow noon is your deadline to reschedule. If you don't you will not be able to reschedule it, and I think you will have to cancel with a 3 month wait to take it again.

I think that even if reschedule to next Saturday you can be in good shape. Just find the questions that you got wrong in Top Score and read those topics. Top Score tells you the topic of the questions you got wrong so use that. Honestly the DAT is simple test and it only really needs 3 days of intense preparation to get a good score. You will be fine if you have the attitude that it is an easy test and that all you need to do just read the Kaplan 'lecture" parts in detail and understand it.

It's not a bad deal, all you have to do is read a book carefully and you'll be on track to a rewarding career.

I have asked many schools about the DAT scores, and every dental school told me that you need AT LEAST a 17 for all sections in order to consider your application. So I think I will be standing with the group that is suggesting for you to reschedule the DAT until you are more prepared.
