I am starting to think a little about my essays for secondary apps. It seems like this question is asked pretty often on secondaries. I'm curious what people typically write for it. It seems like your primary application should cover as much as possible.

If you and your best friend were at a cocktail party talking to the Dean of Admissions, what would you most want your friend to say about you? Whatever accomplishment(s) or personal quality(s) that statement would reveal -- write something that demonstrates that.

If that's already well-covered in your application, go for something interesting, memorable, and perhaps quirky. A hobby or special talent?

Right - what's the most interesting thing about you that's "off the page," so to speak? It invites anything that's not a structured job, activity, PS experience .. Very broad, so run with it.

You should also prepare for this question at interviews. It's a common one!

Some ideas: write about a time you had to deal with something really difficult and how you handled it, write about passions that stand out or any interesting hobbies, talk about a travel adventure that left an impact on you, write about anything that is memorable about you and your life (obviously memorable in a good way!). Good luck!
