Dear pharmacist or pharmacy students;

I got accepted to Midwestern next year for the 3 years program. I know the program is so difficult and require a lot of memorization. I know you have had or are have struggles with the classes. Although, I also searched the forum and found useful ideas to study effectively, I want to know more specific experiences in 3 years program. Other ideas are always welcomed

I am also wondering how graduates/ pharmacists can update their knowledge after a few year working. I am working as a certified technicians and I do not think the current job give me more chances to update my knowledge. I also asked some pharmacists and different people gave me different thinking.

I went the 3 year route and am glad I did. You basically just have to be of the mindset that you're willing to go pretty much non stop for 3 years. Once I got into rotations it got much less intense.

As far as keeping your knowledge base refreshed I think you have to be disciplined to read and not just for CE credits but just so you are knowledgable and able to contribute. It helps if your job keeps you learning just by working but even after working at a hospital for 3 years I feel like I'm not learning a lot of new things like I used to. Now I have to search out learning in other ways and not just from what I encounter during the work day. Hope this helps.

Thank you for answering my question. I just wonder how I can memorize all information. My school offers block schedule with many assignments and exams. Some people told me that they normally have 2 exams/ test per week. That scared me a lot because my memorization is not good.

I spent 10 hours today staring at antihyperlipidemics, antihypertensives, calcium channel blockers, diuretics, vasodilators, and sympatholytics. Memorizing structures, structure activity relationship, molecular targets, design rationale, and tons of other stuff that makes me want to play in oncoming traffic. Medicinal chemistry is killing my soul.

My point being - just give up on having a life. That makes it much easier.

I would suggest starting a small study group at the end of every class. Meet together and study the lectures that day over again (independently so keep the voices down) and then if anyone has questions or need clarifications or is missing some notes on what the prof said, they can speak up and the group can help them out.

Then u go home and study it again.

Also, never procrastinate. Study at a minimum of 2 weeks before exams. I made the mistake of studying 1 week before and up to the day of the exam week, I was still studying for different classes. It was that horrendous!
