I have 4days more be4 exam.. pls help if anyone knows abt this Q below..

Do I hav to give antibiotic such as Tetracycline or doxicycline on Chronic periodontitis even if the patients does not contains systemic condition ?

Because I think that Antibiotics are given only when the disease are goes on systemic condition or indicates possibility to systemic infection..

But Chronic periodontitis is primarily caused by plaque (specially P. gingivalis which is gram negative anaerobic Bacteria). so It should be treated by Tetra or Doxi or metronidazole...

I don't know how to decide the answer if it comes on exam..
pls help... even without systemic condition (like fever, lymphadenopathy),

Indications for antibiotic prophylaxis

2 grams of Amox 1 hr before any procedure that will "manipulate the gingival tissue"

-Pts with unrepaired severe carido defect
-Pts with completely repaired cardio defect but within 6mo of surgery (time required for epithelialization)
-Pt with artificial heart valve
-Pt with hx of endocarditis

For pts with prosthetic joints you should prophylax for 2 years after surgery.

To the best of my knowledge these are the ONLY pts that will require prophylaxis.
