OK, what does this sign mean? I never seen it before. It can been seen on page 56 and 75 of EK
 
EK what..what book....?????? the first thing that came to mind was a formal charge on a molecule. My gen chem book uses that notation...hope that helps..

I think it means approximately equal to.

At constant pressure enthalpy is, for all intents and purposes, equal to internal energy change
At constant volume enthalpy is the same as heat
 
wow that is what i thought WTF they are so ..... why cant they just use .≈ ..the weavy equal sign....
