I have noticed that there are a lot of posts about programs on the East coast. If you are looking for a 4 year integrated program consider the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio for the following reasons:
San Antonio is a culturally diverse city with a population of over 1.5 million people (7th largest)
warm weather
Campus is in a nice part of town with jogging trails, tennis courts, sand vollyball, baseball. The Spectrum just built a 24 hour gym with an outdoor pool within walking distance of all the hospitals. Residents enroll at a discounted rate.
Reasonable cost of living..Many residents own houses
Program has well organized didactic sessions with protected lecture time 3-4 days a week.
Curriculum includes Practice Management (You will need this later)
ACGME accredited Pain fellowship on site (takes up to 5 residents per year)
Well balanced education--residents go on to private practice, fellowship and academics
Superb EMG training, Board of PMR requires 200 EMG's, residents do upwards of 400-500.
Excellent Board pass rates
Total of 26 residents, diverse in terms demographics
Multiple opportunities for electives including Sports Medicine,Pain medicine, wound care and hyperbaric medicine, pediatrics, musculoskeletal and neuroradiology
CALL: This program is the only PM&R program I know of with a night float system. First and second year residents are only on call 1-2 times a month. 3rd and 4th years do back up call from home.
