A question for the ortho group on SDN. I’ve often heard of / seen PM&R/Pain in surgical practices, particularly ortho and neurosurgery. As an orthopedic surgeon, what are skills or things you look for when adding a PM&R and/or pain physician to your practice? How do they fit into your practice? Thanks in advance.

The ones that work with our orthopedic surgeons provide non-operative care for back pain such as epidurals and RFA’s. They also do pain management for patients who aren't surgical candidates.

Having a good pain referral team is huge for ortho practices, particularly for spine.
