Is PM&R a good route to take if you wanted to do occupational medicine. If so, do many PM&R trained docs do this and do you still need to complete the 2 year fellowship? Also, could this be something you practice on the side in addition to general PM&R as an additional revenue stream? Thanks.

It depends on what you mean by occupational medicine. If you are talking work comp injuries and pre employment stuff, then yes it is a good route. No fellowship needed. You will need to get a refresher on eye injuries and simple sutures. If you want to do exposures and real environmental medicine, or if you want to be a "company doctor" then you are far better off doing formal Occ Med.

bump.. does anyone have any thoughts on occupational medicine residency? its not very well known
