So I just looked at the #'s and it seems that more foreign grads matched this year than AMGs? Am I looking at the #'s right? It seems like 52 AMGs took PGY-1 out of 103 total and 152 took PGY-2 out of 294 total PGY2, so it means that barely over 200 AMGs took PMR out of a possible almost 400 spots. so about 50% AMGs?

I see. Yeah I was thinking that after I posted but still. That's pretty surprising that not more AMGs are picking PMR. Why is that? Seems like a great specialty.

PM&R has always had a lot of DO's. At least as long as I've been around. If it hit 50% AMG's, that might actually be an "improvement".

Well I posted the #'s I saw on the NRMP match outcomes for the year. It does not seem that there was a huge upsurge of AMGs as people were suggesting. I'm hoping to switch into PMR that's why I was freaking out. I am planning on contacting programs regarding any openings-any other ideas as to how to go about finding out about open spots? I'd rather not go through the match.

Where are you getting 2013 numbers that show the type of applicant that matched? I thought they weren't being released until tomorrow?

I saw it in one of the forums, forget which one exactly-maybe anesthesia or general forum? It shows all the spots offered, the total % filled/unfilled, and whether they were AMGs, independent, etc.

The long term trend seems to show slightly more US seniors going into PM&R. I would imagine the long term trend also shows IMG's being squeezed out in favor of DO's. It's amusing how quickly it's become competitive in just a few years. I always warn people that PM&R's low average board scores belie how competitive the field actually is.

From what I gather, I don't think PMR is competitive when it comes to scores per se, in the way that derm or rac onc are, but I guess PMR filters based on real interest/rationale for going into PMR, as well as the low # of spots. I think people with real interest will likely match despite low scores. No?
