I am currently a senior and have just recently applied to dental school this summer. I am looking at podiatry school as well but haven't applied yet. I would like some options if dentistry doesn't pan out..I know some pod schools take the DAT..My question is how early should one apply to pod school during the application cycle and will applying late hurt my chances of getting in.

Almost all of the schools work on rolling admissions. Although it's not too late, I would suggesst submitting your application to AACPMAS asap. Not sure how it works for dental school, but AACPMAS is a podiatry application service. Simply fill out your basic criteria, essay etc, and select your school destinations.

You could find the application service at:
http://www.e-aacpmas.org/

SDN offers information on the main page regarding podiatry and the profession in general. You can also find different school reviews and interview feedback as well.

The following quote, made a few days ago pretty much sums up the profession.

If you really want to make a difference in people's lives, make a decent living, not put your fingers into bodily orifices daily, or wake up at 2 AM your entire career, then podiatry sounds pretty appealing. Podiatry is a great field you can be a deformity correction specialist, and trauma surgeon of Foot and ankle, a generalist, a research guru, a surgeon, wound care guy, or anything else you can think of relating to foot and ankle care. You can work a ton, or as little as you want and still eat pretty well.

Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me with any further questions.
Good luck. 👍
