Long time reader, and I realized that the biggest problem with podiatry colleges is their inability to provide a guaranteed income.
This means that the median income is probably in the 120-150k range. And that seems bad for a 7 year educational experience.
Law school comes to mind.
Because law school likewise doesn't offer guaranteed wages, only the top 14 law schools do. In other cases, law school graduates may earn 60-90k a year.
So back to podiatric medicine. I realize that if you can be in the 10% of your class, you're likely to get a good job.
That means you're likely to work in a hospital, which means your first job pays $250,000+ a year.
From that perspective, assume a scenario. You have a gpa of 3.8+ and a mact of 510+. You could have gone to MD/DO, but you went to podiatry school. Your academic ability allows you to be in the 10% of your class and get a good residency and a good job.
I am now trying to argue that podiatric medicine is not as bad as it is made out to be on this forum.
Podiatry really isn't like other medical careers, and even NPs and PAs are more scarce than podiatry.
But that doesn't mean podiatry isn't a good career, just that you need to treat podiatry like law school. Be the one that stands out.
