I have a question concerning the point distribution of your score. Say two people score a 34 but one person got a bs 11, ps 12, v11 and the other person got a bs 13, ps 13, v8. Who is looked at more favorably in the eyes of schools? The reason I ask is I got my final diagnostic back, aamc 7r, and i got a 12 12 and 7, 7 being my verbal. I'm concerned that even though my overall score is decent, that 7 is really gonna hurt me. What are yall's opinions? Thanks

From what I hear, it's better to get an even distribution (particularily 10 or better across the board).

But I'm not part of the adcom, so I can't answer for sure.

Had pretty much the same exact question a few days ago after i took AAMC 7. Verbal was my lowest score (PS=12 VR=9 BS=12 Total=33) and i was kind of freaking out. The best response i got was that the closer the distribution the better, but it isn't something that is seriously going to hurt you...unless any section is a 6 or below (I.E. total 34 PS=14 VR=6 BS=14).

However, if English isn't your first language perhaps adcoms will understand the discrepany. But by and large there isn't a big difference between someone who got a 34 (PS=11 VR=10 BS=13) and someone who got a 34 (PS=13 VR=8 PS=13). You will do awesome like the rest of us and will get an even distribution. GOOD LUCK ALL.

A VR7 is definitely a punch to the gut, because most med schools start getting iffy about your MCAT if any section is an 8 or below.

The person with the better verbal score! Reason being is b/c adcom reps already know that people who are applying to med school are well versed in the sciences, and are therefore expected to score well. However, the verbal section is known as a killer! Though no test is accurate, adcoms weigh the verbal section quite heavily. I have been told that getting a specific score in verbal is like getting that specific score + 1 in the other two sections.
