Why is it that some secondaries ask you to list your extracurriculars, awards, hobbies, etc? And others that ask you to list your pre-req class grades. All of this information is on the primary application so do these schools not look at the primary application?

Just another hoop to jump through I guess.

I don't know these schools but it could be that they want to provide information to either an evaluator or an interviewer such that they don't have access to your grades and stuff like parents' alma maters that could bias decisions and in the second case, the school might want to make their own task easier as it is sometimes hard to interprete the abbreviated course titles and determine that this or that covers a specific academic requirement.

Even if they get all the information they need from AMCAS, would seem gauche for them to simply ask for money in order to consider your application; they have to disguise it as an "application fee".

Mayo just asks for money, and I wish more schools would. If I have to choose between wasting my time and my money, and just wasting my money, I choose just wasting my money.

If you look at some of the old secondary prompts like Columbia (asking for you to list awards) or U Miami (asks for all the ECs you've done basically) you see these kind of questions. Obviously this is for money / weed out at some other schools

lmao 👍

Maybe schools should take a different approach...
