polarity question

are we expected to determing polarity of complex molecules like this? i figured the molecule on the left would be more polar because the methyl group on the top left is an electron donating group and the bottom left sulfur is electron withdrawing as opposed to the molecule on the right where the alcohol group on the top left is electron withdrawing as well as the sulfur group

ps couldnt figure out how to upload the pic after i cropped it in ms word aside form uploading a word doc
