Does anyone have recommendations on whether to list a future experience on the AMCAS? Is it, perhaps, better to allude to something like that in the essay and not write it at all on post-secondary experiences since it isnt really an experience? Perhaps it should only be included on secondaries? Thanks for the help!

Best to allude to it in your PS if at all. Remember, a future engagement does not add anything to you because you haven't experienced it, learned anything or done anything with it, furthermore it's not verifiable. I can say I plan on interning with the Surgeons General, and they grant me an interview based on that and ask about and I later say I had strep-throat so I couldn't go.

The way you describe it hints that mentioning a future experience may be looked down upon since, as you say, it cant be verified. I do feel it is something significant but if they feel I am trying to 'pull a fast one' perhaps its better to leave it off?

As I said, if you can include it in your PS or secondaries. Like, "through such and such I will also have the opportunity to yappity yap yap." But not just because it can't be verified, but also what's the point? Does it add to your application to show, based of off what you did, who you are? How is it really a credit and expect the adcoms to judge you based of something you haven't done yet especially given that ECs play a big role in determining how you balance your life and work and the amount of time you put into it.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing and you should bring them up whenever you have the chance, but I don't think it's wise to place them on the actual AMCAS form for ECs. I may be wrong though.. but I think they want to see what you've done or are doing in conjecture with everything else.

hey, i actually listed a future experience in the 'post secondary experiences' section...in the description make sure you say what you are planning to do with that future experience. it's not a big deal...

From what I've heard, the rule of thumb on the future experiences is that you can put them in, as long as you have started them by the time you interview. That way, you can talk about them. Also, if you have 1 or 2 future experiences and 12 or 13 old ones, and all 15 are all about the same caliber, the adcoms won't look down on the 2 future ones. If however, you haven't done a thing for the past 5 years, I wouldn't put it down, as this will look pretty lame. Just my 2 cents worth.
