When I started this crazy med school process, if it wasn't for anecdotes on mdapps, I don't think I would have taken myself seriously. There was a 45 year old Air Force veteran who got into one of the UT schools, and a bunch of other over-35 folks who posted their stats, their experience, their schools, and the dates of every piece of paper or email received. I wasn't going to be the only over-40 applicant with massive transcript damage. What a resource.

So here's to the anonymous boneless chickens who are repeatedly commenting about how silly I was to apply, and how lucky I am to have gotten in. I'm so grateful to be reminded that my GPA is low (it is? really? stunner...). I'm so grateful to have the knowledge that my age should have kept me out. To today's anonymous crap-disher, I'm so sorry about your tiny little penis.

We had a similar thread in the non-trad forum about a week ago, but I just want to add this here in case others are getting trolled anonymously. If you have the balls to link to your mdapps, you are doing a public service. Please don't stop. Just ignore the comments.

Thanks.

I just wish that I didn't have to regulate the comments. I love the hate posts.

I get "go **** yourself" and "you're a ****ing idiot" on a semi-regular basis. They tend to pop up more regularly when I am posting on pre-allo, which is funny.

Troglobites... awesome SAT/GRE word. I love it.

I put 10,000 votes on "cave-dwellers."

While I never created an MDApps, 1. too lazy, and 2. not interested in others comments.... I certainly commend those who do (at least those who are honest in their MDApp)

For me, the med school app process was terrifying enough at times... wondering if the schools would think I was good enough... let alone if the random and anonymous SDNers would think I was alright

Basically, I didn't want any possible comment (written by an anonymous person) to allow me to doubt myself in any way. I know I should be strong enough to not let comments bother me... but while I'm working on that aspect of me..... I says "F$*k off" to the MDapp haters.

Not to get all Freudian on this thread... but those mean posts... are truly being run by a person's "ID".... which wouldn't be allowed in a more opening discussion in society... the EGO would have none of it.

Some of the things I read on MDApps is really inspiring... I think its awesome when people accomplish goals... it makes my outlook on the future of the health system a little brighter....

.... hopefully the hatin' trolls will drop out M1 yr.... 😀

Irony list:
- until I got accepted, not one person said anything discouraging to me, particularly when I started the conversation with "talk me out of this."
- after I got accepted, the very first "you shouldn't be admitted because of your age" SDN post was made
- I never got a negative post on my mdapps until after I got accepted

So basically the anonymoids were way too late to have any affect. Dorks.

Yes. Its actually quite funny to picture the cave dwellers in this scenario...

CaveDweller: sitting by computer for 5th hour in a row, simultaneously picking nose and congratulating self on acing that 10-pt Chemistry quiz.... "I am the awesomest" is going through his mind... "And who needs an invite to a social party when I understand acid/base rxns."

**until he happens upon Midlife's MDApp**

CD: "What?" "An Acceptance?" He flings his booger at his computer screen, and sits down holding his stuffed Teddy while rocking back and forth, thinking..... "I'll get this person. I'll reverse this. Ok... list of awful words.... evil, hatred, mean, loser.... that can fix this." Writes silly useless post on Midlife's MDApps. Falls asleep satisfied.

** 3 days later**

CD: What? STILL accepted? And smiling comments in her recent posts? I have hatred of the accepted-enemy... but since so many are now getting accepted.... my list of "enemies" is too long. Calling for reinforcements! (Hops on World of Warcraft for 7+ hrs).

------------------------------------------------------------------------
So yes... my "scenario" was way sillly... but truthfully, something similar to this might just actually be happening in real life with some SDNers

I have yet to get any yet. I don't think there is anything too out of the ordinary good, bad, or otherwise, so I don't know if anyone has something to go after me about. We'll see!

Hey DrMidlife,

I voted that these people are bitter because they didn't get accepted.

The Adcoms can see their immaturity and that they wouldn't be right for medicine. It’s not right that these people post these nasty comments.

Thank You, for posting your stats...

I have absolutely no idea why people post negative comments. I have had my MDapps up for almost a year and I have not gotten one negative comment but it seems like everyone else does. There is only one comment I haven't accepted only bc it wasn't related to medical school applications but it wasn't negative. I'm guessing it is just immature people who are trying to get a rise out someone so I voted other since I don't know what a troglobite is. 🙂

Great Scenario!!! I can almost smell the BO, and unwashed socks smell in their dorm room, and picture the almost empty bottle of lotion next to their computer. Classic.

My mdapps was #3881. I took the link out of my sig when I got basically a threat against my children (who were on my avatar at the time). My avatar quickly changed to my husband at work about to execute a no-knock warrant geared up with the rest of his SWAT buddies. I was pretty pissed.

Troglobites. Fitting.

SWAT is awesome. They are kind of the orthopedic surgeons of the police force. It is hilarious listening to regular cops talk **** about them, and vice-versa.

I was actually going to ask you about your avatar switch once upon a time. That would explain it. Threats toward your family? 👎 Unbelievable.

I got one that said I'd never get accepted anywhere.

....made me laugh as it was posted AFTER I'd updated my profile with 5 acceptances.

Small world! I used to have a server hosted at the County of Orange Data Center (the listed owner of that IP block), and as far as I know, that is where SDN was hosted as well a while back. It seems now it is hosted with time warner. I've been in the OC data center at 1400 S Grand Ave more times than I would have liked fixing random server problems.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my random story 😛

thats weird, someone deleted my post. i had the IP address that posted me those mean things on MDAPPLICANTS with a destination and the person who owns the IP address. What was wrong with that?

Betcha $5 somebody was afraid his mom would find out what he was doing, so asked a mod to remove his mom's email address.

It was I who deleted your post. It contained private, personally identifying information, such as email and address, displayed in a public forum without the consent of the person. We had some discussion over the issue, but I felt that it could potentially constitute a violation of privacy. I think any personal/private indentifying information of a given entity should not be posted/displayed publically without notification (if appropriate) and the expressed or implied consent of the entity. It was the displaying of the information publically without consent (particularly in conjunction with the MDAPPS incident), not the ease of obtaining the said information, that made me uneasy. I felt the appropriate action was to remove the information, in order to avoid potential privacy issues.

While I understand where you all are coming from (I also dislike those who abuse the feedback function of MDAPPS), I cannot condone the display of the information, as tempting as it is. Sorry.

Elllino, there's no reason you can't email this mom and say "hey you know what your kid is doing?"

We're you asked to delete it from the person that posted that comment on MDApplicants, if so, would you mind telling us who it was :meanie:. lol.

I understand what you are saying though, I just don't know if that was meant to be 'funny' or 'mean' in my MDApplicants.

I received negative posts before I was accepted about how the schools I was planning to apply to were a waste of time with my grades. To be honest, I knew some of them were going to reject me, but I had to do it for my own peace of mind, so screw them.

Dork. Did y'all know the origin of the word "dork"? Apparently it's slang for whale penis.

Just had to throw that in there. Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

I have to say, I went through your comments and this is my favorite:

Wow, you really are quite old. Look at it this way: by the time you finish residency, most of your peers will be retired and off enjoying their free time. While they sail into the sunset, you'll be sailing into some senior's rectum, helping to disimpact his or her bloated colon, all while explaining to him what the hell a DO is. Well, at least no one will question your motives for going into medicine.

This was written by either a teenager or someone who got crushed in the application process. Most of the individuals that I get along with in medical school are the non-traditional students, not the "youngsters." Don't let idiots like the above get you down.

*As a side note, you can also trace their IP address and find out where they live. If you post this following their post, I find that people are less willing to write idiotic things; I only got one or two negative comments (sometimes its good to be a dork).

That explains it.

OP - Feel good in your acceptance, provide an example to other applicants, hope that the haters learn, and ignore the rest. I was #4652.

As an aside, take this as the first lesson of med school - a lot of people treat you poorly, and it has nothing to do with you.
