How many people here matched to a place, but never received a phone call from that program?

How many people here matched to a place, but never received ANY form of contact from that program (email, letter, etc?)

curious.

I know there is another thread talking about this, but this is a separate question pertaining to residents whom have matched, and not to applicants who are hoping to match.

good luck everyone!

Where I've matched I received some kind of post-interview contact, whether by phone or by email, but also with the places where I didn't match (and ranked higher) I received some form of contact as well.

I don't think it really matters all that much. It's all a stupid game.

wow castro! That's interesting. While it's obviously just a big game, it still sucks if you're like me and haven't gotten *ANY* phone calls.

I have received generic letters though. Not personalized though.

I received a few e-mails from the chairman of the program where I matched to.

I got a hand written letter from a chairman at a program that I ranked lower than where I matched.

I got a few phone calls from residents from one program about a week before rank lists were due.

These were the only three programs that contacted me out of about a dozen programs that I checked out.

I got a phone call and letter from my residency program and a letter from my fellowship.

Like the others, I also got letters and phone calls from places I didn't match (but might have had I ranked them higher, or they me).

It wasn't surgery, but I got letters last year (handwritten even), and I scrambled. So don't put a lot of value in the letters. Do you really need something else to stress about?

It really isn't a big deal. As others have noted, you usually get some form of correspondance, most popularly by post or email. Phone calls aren't all that common, from what I understand.

When I matched, it took about a week before I heard from my program in the form of a generic letter by email, which said something to the effect of they will be giving us further correspondance in a few weeks. Everyone else I knew got info/forms to fill out/etc. long before I ever did. Never got a phone call.

In the long run, it doesn't matter...you matched and have a spot.

I think the OP is asking about, for those of us who matched in previous years, how many heard from the program - either via email, letter or phone call, BEFORE we matched since it appears he has not heard and is getting worried that this means he won't match.

Hi everyone

thanks winged scapula. that's correct, did any of you MATCH to the program you are currently at but *NOT* receive a phone call or personalized letter from them?

Never recieved a phone call, until after match.

I matched at my #1 choice and never got a single phone call or letter or email.

I never received anything (phone call, email, snail mail) from my program before the match.

I only got emails from like 2 or 3 programs I interviewed at in the weeks leading up to the match....and ironically all were programs low on my rank list (and yes, I matched at a place higher on my rank list than all of these programs.)

haha, another question. it's obviously moot now because the match list is already in - but i just realized i never sent a thank you card/email to my third ranked program! haha, not smart. i know. whoops. it was an oversight. anyway, my question is:

did anyone end up matching somewhere where they DID NOT send a thank you letter?

YES! Many people match where they did not send a thank you letter. Many programs I interviewed with requested we save our time by NOT writing TYLs. For the most part they will not have any bearing on your rank at most programs.

I personally know surgery residents who matched without sending a single thank you card to anyone.
