Background: Current US M4, and found out last week that I did very poorly on (but passed) CK. I have a very mediocre Step 1 score in the mid 220s. I already submitted ERAS before September 15, so only Step 1 scores have been sent. I did some searching, and general consensus seems to be not releasing a poor step 2 CK score, so I do not intend on releasing my scores. I have no other red flags.

Question: I am currently debating on whether to apply to more programs (anesthesia). I know that the new programs that I apply to (if I decide to do so) will definitely receive both Step 1 and Step 2 CK. My question is if I do apply to additional programs, will the old programs (that I applied to before September 15th) automatically get my CK scores.

I understand that this is very risky, but has anyone had first hand experience of applying to more programs (in whatever specialty) later in the season, and sent scores, and also noticed that the initial programs did not receive an updated usmle score report?

Any advice appreciated.

If you assign USMLE scores to a program, they get all of the scores. But if you only had Step 1 when you submitted to old programs, then in order for them to get step 2, you need to re-release the scores to them.

You can release the USMLE scores to new programs and not re-release to the old ones.

Someone else will need to confirm but I think you can hang on to your step 2 score until after interviews when you'll need to submit the score in order to be ranked.
