For those of you that have taken CS, do the standardized patients create physical exam findings for you to report in your note? For instance, do they make a murmur sound when you are auscultating a certain cardiac area or generate positive egophy signs when listening to the lungs in someone with shortness of breath?

During my school OSCEs, there haven't been any positive physical findings to include in the note. The encounters have been heavily focused and scored on taking an appropriate history, expressing empathy, and doing all the little (but important) things like washing hands, draping, and not examining through the gown.

I take CK in 10 days and then take CS 5 days later....😱

Yes, they will feign exam findings. Examples:

1) To show that they have decreased breath sounds on one side, they'll move their chest up and down but not actually breath while you're auscultating.

2) To demonstrate a carotid bruit, they'll make a whooshing noise while you're auscultating their neck.

3) They can make fake wheezes too....they like that one a lot

We had the same thing in our med schoool OSCE's ATrim7 - if there were any physical findings the proctor would inform us while we are examining/finishing that system. They mainly focused on the minute details - intro, identifying role, obtaining consent, ensuring confidentiality, hand washing before/after patient contact, explanation during the examination,..etc.
Where are you doing your CS? Best of luck to you! Let us know how it went for you.

the proctors are not going to inform you of these possible findings during CS...just to clarify

After reading this, I got worried. There were some interesting things going on with my patients. I was like, "WTF is this person doing?" Granted, I took the COMLEX II PE. Everything for me, for the most part was normal except some palpatory findings.
