Reading is key.
Just before we get started, here are my stats and other information about me:
Public health Major
3.4 Overall
3.51 Science
CA resident
DAT: 18AA 18TS...(16 QR and 17 Reading) 23 PAT <<< 2nd time taking it first scores were terrible, which explains why I submitted my app late (November)
Over 3000 Extra curricular hours related to dentistry (general, ortho, endo and perio all different places)
Worked for an IT department on campus for 3 years and enjoy assembling/disassembling computers etc. << this info will come in handy later.
Applied to 14 schools and currently waitlisted in 3 schools I'm not going to say which ones but I'm starting to lose hope this late in the cycle.
My father is also a dentist but there's no pressure of me becoming one.
I graduated in 2014 and worked on my pre-reqs since and I'm currently 24 years old. Preparing for the DAT was hell for me. I went thru this forum in and out and used materials such as bootcamp, chads videos, dat and math destroyer, cliff's AP biol and feralis notes...twice. I pretty much isolated myself from family and friends to study for it and was in the library about 7-8 hours per day 5-6 days a week and I really don't want to go through this again for the 3rd time with the possibility of getting the same results. While applying for dental school, I also applied for a master's program in electrical and computer engineer and was accepted recently. It's a 1.5 years program that would cost me about $40k versus dental school's 4 years, $400+k. Don't get me wrong, I love dentistry for what it is and enjoyed shadowing general practitioners and specialists, but I also value time and money. The time, money, and preparation to re-apply is just grueling, but is it worth it in my situation? 4 years compared to 1.5....400k compared to 40k. Is it worth re-applying? As far as finding an engineering job after, I have 5 uncles that are engineers who can "hook it up". What would you do in my situation? Saying that I don't get into any program this year?
Edit: Actually 5 years if you include reapplying. Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering starts this fall.
