Possible Interview Questions

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I heard it's better if you're different than the average interviewee so I'm going in a trench coat and a g-string

hardest question i had on interviews for medical school was "teach me something in 5 minutes" ....caught me off guard
If I may ask, how did you respond?
A doc I work with was asked what type of pie she would be, if she were a pie. Then they asked whether she'd like to eat herself if she were a pie and had that opportunity.

😵
Self-cannibalism, a great way to test medical ethics!

i responded with a "hmm. that's an interesting question. let me think for a second."....5-10 seconds later, i taught the dean of admissions (who asked me the question) how to waterski

well...to be comPLETELY honesty....technically, the craziest question i had was at a Boston school....about ethics....essentially was given a 15 minute backstory that ultimately led to whether i would sell my hypothetical 12 year old daughter into sexual slavery for 20 bucks or have my family starve to death 1 family member at a time (family of four, 2 kids) because the 20 dollar oxen died and had no food to feed my family.

THAT was weird. i did got into that school tho ha

Now I'm really curious as to what you answered on this one (cheap oxen!)

i sold her. but justified it. i dont know if there was a right answer. the guy (head of the public health prgram at the school) agreed but i think these kinds of questions are really meant to evaluate your thinking process, thought organization, and ability to communicate diffiult things. it was an interesting interview to say the least but one of my favorite and definitely my most memorable

Very interesting. Thank you very much for sharing! I'm quite pleasantly surprised at the depth of these questions (which is to be expected, but wow, what an interesting question)

A question that caught me off guard was "If you had a super power what would it be?"
What I didn't know was that there was a follow up question, "How would you use that power to help people?"

My first thought was laser eyes, but, I decided not to go with that answer. =)

'Laser vision! I would... Help people who are in need of welding and soldering!'

I had that question from a student interviewer as a final, just for fun question. I said the ability to teleport, for largely selfish reasons - traveling, seeing family, etc. He responded with, "Yeah, that's probably what I'd want, too."

When schools ask about other schools you have applied to, what is their purpose for that?

Haha, teleporting would of been awesome, but I'm sort of afraid I'd get myself into trouble (circa Nintendo NES stuck in wall glitches). So, I opted with flying. With the follow up question, I said "Mobile organ delivery service", she said "That's a new one". I then told her, "I'm glad I didn't say my first though, laser eyes". But, upon reflection, a combination of laser eyes to remove organ, then being able to fly it away would of made a great combination, if allowed a combination at all.

To add something else to the thread, I was also asked "How would I fix healthcare?", that was pretty fun to answer in front of a panel of three (two doctors and a med student).

I just want to say that for whatever questions you guys find, maybe write a few words for the main idea of your answer or a specific topic you'll discuss in your answer, but DO NOT write out an actual response. You'll be tempted to memorize it and then you'll sound like a robot during the interview. It's really easy to detect a scripted answer, and what you really want is to sound thoughtful and genuine. A scripted response also makes it hard to improvise and build off a question, should the question be phrased slightly differently.

So write a couple words to get yourself thinking and so you have an idea in mind, but make sure your actual response during the interview is spontaneous and genuine. This also goes for big questions, like the 'why do you want to be a doctor' question: don't memorize a three paragraph response, but instead know the few points you want to make and kinda just go with it during each interview (just make sure to practice this one a few times beforehand so you don't go on and on for 10 minutes). Good luck everyone!

What...how...

They're just a bunch of polled surveys..

OH OH! I didn't even know you could click on the "Questions" , I thought there were none since there was nothing below it.. Well now that link is helpful.

So, out of boredom, I googled 'runs for chocolate' and came across this race where they give you a bunch of chocolately stuff at the end.

It sounds delicious, and the money raised goes to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Thank you, @runs4chocolate .
