Hi,

I have a question for those who are applying for this cycle and already have experiences with the AMCAS application. I'm actually going to apply next year and planned to have my application ready to submit as early as possible in June '07.

I'm planning to go on a 2 week medically related scholar program which involves visiting and learning about South Africa and the challenges facing AIDS/HIV. This is a set schedule which will take place at end of May til mid-June.

Now, my question is, will AMCAS even allow me to complete the application before June 1st? And if so, would it be ok for me to include this activity mentioned above in my application even though technically, I would have done it right after I submit it? (but would have been done w/the activity by the time schools receive it). Or, is there a section in the application or an option which indicates what I anticipate on doing for that summer?

If not, do you suggest I wailt til mid-June, when I come back from the trip to include it and just submit my application a bit later? (hoping that it won't make too much difference in getting my application read from med schools).
Thank you for your help in advance!

I definitely put "future' things that I was going to be doing during the summer. However, if you do wait until mid-June (which is still very early), you might have more to say about the experience/trip which could be helpful.

You can't put it in on your application until you've done it. AMCAS won't let you add future activities. That being said, you have two options:

(1) Like you said, wait until you return to do your AMCAS.

(2) Don't include it on your AMCAS, but write about it on your secondaries.

I would think 2 would be the best option, since you won't lose any time and the med schools will still get to hear about it.

You could put this as an official work/activity. When it asks for the duration of your trip, put down the most present dates (eg May 2007-present) and then in the description of the activity, explain that it actually ends in June.

put it down...and explain it in the text box also type out the dates. and what yout hink you will be doing..i did this for my post bacc. research and no one seemed to care..

Yup, I agree with kerplunk. Don't overthink this!

Also, the AMCAS application goes "live" sometime in April. At this time, you can fill it out to your heart's content- you just can't hit the submit button. If I were you, I'd fill it out all the way before you leave. Then, give someone you trust (and I mean trust- a parent might be a good choice here) your AMCAS sign-in info, and have them submit it for you on the first possible day.
