Possibly retaking MCAT in January 2016, do I individually call each school and let them know?

I submitted my primary for multiple schools this week (within the past 3 or so days). I wasn't sure how I can go about this. I have a Sept 2015 MCAT score that isn't too great and I am contemplating taking a Jan. 2016 test.

Why not apply next year instead? You have the score equivalent to a 23, correct?

Let's say you do well on your January retake. You won't get your scores until the end of February. By this point, you're likely not going to get much love from schools at this point, even if you improved your score. Most spots would simply be taken up.

Let's say you did the same, or got ~24-25. You'd be applying late with a low'ish score. Generally speaking, not a good recipe for success.

Now, however, if you apply the first day of next cycle, even if your score is between 23-25, I'd say you have a decent shot at getting at least one acceptance. Especially with the 2 (or more) new programs opening up for that cycle.

Also, it's best to avoid being a reapplicant.

No, you don't have to call them.
