I'm wondering how closely med schools scrutinize your grades after you've been accepted somewhere.

Would they care if I got straight Cs, or would they revoke my acceptance? What exactly are they looking for? Just proof that I graduated and took the classes that I said I was taking or do they actually analyze the grades as well?

I don't know if this is typical, but UVA says that they require a written explanation for any 'C' you get after being accepted. If you get a 'D' or less, they say that they'll re-vote on whether or not to accept you

Of my friends who applied last year, most schools that offered them acceptances wanted to see that their grades were consistent with their past performance. Many understood that grades may have fallen as a result of interviews and travelling. In addition, I have a friend who only applied to 6 schools. Ready... Harvard, Penn, Yale, Duke, Hopkins, and Pitt. He was waitlisted at Harvard and accepted to the rest. He's now at Pitt. But, he had a 3.99 cum when he applied. After all his interviews, his semester GPA was a 3.6! The schools didn't care though.

Dr Kermit:

Are you talking about someone from JHU?I think I might know him/you? I'm also at JHU........

now i dont want to be attacked for asking this, but is there any particular reason he picked Pitt over the rest of 'em? was it financial or did he just like Pitt over all the others?

full ride scholarship + stipend for living.

ok, that'll do it. 🙂

To quote another poster from a long long time ago (changed for my situation)

I'm staring down the barrel at a C in PCHEM.

This sucks, I really don't care that much about molecular orbital theory and quantum mechanics...but apparentally the regents who will confer (hopefully) my biochem degree do!

Even if they don't care, wouldn't you? I mean, you've worked so hard to get where you are... why screw it up now? Just try your best so that should you get a bad grade, you know you tried. Good luck 👍

Same situation here. PChem is kicking my ass. I really don't wanna learn about the MO theory and Quantum junk. A C+ will do it for me. I think med schools will understand that its a tough class and that we aren't slacking.

A friend of mine got a C in PChem during his last semester and nothing happened. He did write a letter explaining what happened tho.

no doubt, frickin' Dr. Brown.

Not like he's actually ever around if we have questions.....

I smell grade appeal

So once I send out my transcript this May, will the schools care anymore? Heh so I can slack off on this quarter, summer, and the rest of my undergrad?!

Then again...acceptance isn't a sure thing.

I don't know what PChem class you're going to, but in mine we have a great time learning some cool physical chemistry everyday! We get to look at hilarious "racy" comics with silly stick figures. Oh, and how could I forget about the fun we have with bacteriorhodopsin? I bet if you answer "bacteriorhodopsin" to any test question you'd get full credit, he loves it that much. I can't wait to get that class over with, C and all.

HAHA! Right on man! We should form a support group for people who are expected to learn pchem without having a teacher whose actually ever there. I don't know about you, but my review is going to have a lot of "E"s bubbled in....

The class wasn't so bad when he had the old years up, but now that he's taken them down?!?!? I predict the average on this test is going to be in the 50's or worse.

I would imagine that anyone that wasn't happy with their grade in the class would have some serious issues to bring before a grade appeals committee.....I mean, he's been absent for over 15 lectures this semester, and is ALWAYS gone around tests. The TA is useless, he's never responded to any of my emails. What other time do you need a prof. more then around test time?

I dunno, everyone in the department hates Brown and wants him out, there's just no one else to teach the class.

Enough ranting......I should probably learn LCAO-MO now......
