Okay so I need some advice..

I just applied to vet school's and for some reason I feel really anxious and overwhelmed. I am taking Physics now as a senior so it wasn't included in my GPA for vet school (Per my Academic Advisor). I'm really struggling with the material, there's only one lecture a week and each week there are quizzes.. So it's not structured very well. That has put a lot of stress plus waiting for school's to get back to you is another stressor. I've become increasingly anxious and stressed.. I feel like I don't have much me time which I would like. I just don't want to look like I can't handle the rigor of vet school.

I'm a full-time, work 20 hours a week at a job thats like an hour away, have an internship and just signed up to help a LA vet at her farm. I feel like I have so much on my plate. I've been in college for seven years (Community college and UC) and have had either 1,2,3 jobs at any time with internships. I'm not sure why this quarter is just really overwhelming.

So my question is.. Does it look bad if I drop some extra curricular activities or job? I'm worried if I don't my grades won't be great.. 🙁

Is anyone else feeling super overwhelmed with senior year?

Thank you for reading!!

Focus on your schoolwork. That is THE most important part. I can't tell you what you should drop, but you definitely need to figure out some way to lighten your load so you can focus on your schoolwork. And don't let yourself get behind in the class. Go for help now. If your professor has office hours, go to them all. If you can't make them because of another class, see if you can work something out with the professor to meet with them at a different time each week and get help. Get help now before it becomes too late for you to do well in the class because it's a week before the final exam and you are still struggling with the beginning stuff. Focus on your schoolwork because many schools DO care about fall grades, and even if they aren't looking at them for admissions decisions, it would still (most likely?) be a prereq wherever you applied and if you fail it, you would be SOL if you get an acceptance this cycle

The "for some reason" - I think - is because it's now out of your control. At least, that's how I felt. Once submitted I was like "oh man, now I can't fix this, that, and the other thing." Best advice I have for that is to keep yourself (within reason) busy and occupied. Forget about the application. The more you think about it, the more you just keep yourself anxious.

It won't look bad for this cycle if you drop some stuff, and I agree with SkiO that the grades have potential to matter so you should focus on making sure you continue to do adequately. Don't worry about perfection.

But always keep in mind the "what if I don't get in" scenario - if that happens, you'll want to have continued to accrue vet hours, volunteer stuff, etc. So balance your need for cutting back - which is legit - with consideration for continuing to improve your "stats" in case you need to re-apply next year.

G'luck. Hang in there!

Thank you both for your advice! I think it's figuring out what I need to cut out, which is the difficult part.. But I know I definitely need to focus on Physics because it unfortunately is a prerequisite for all the schools except Ohio State.
