Is there anyone out there who know what structure post-bac programs are still available right now of which you can still turn in applications?

VCU-MCV dept of Physiology certificate program. Basically takes anyone. The class is usually about 40+ in the program and about 5 will get into the med school the following year and the rest will stay and get their masters or phds. I applied about 3 wks before school started and ended up going the phd route. Anyway, grad school got me into med school, and the certificate program was my way into grad school.

The program at Bryn Mawr College has rolling admissions, but it's getting down to the last couple (and less lucky) interview dates, I would imagine. When I applied, I turned in my application at the very end of June, interviewed mid-July, and was notified at the beginning of August before classes started the last week of August. It's a one-year program to complete all the basic science prerequisites.

Is it too late to apply for the post-bach program at VCU?? Who should I contact about it?? Also on their web site I couldn't find anything about the cost of the program or if loans are available. Thanks.

thats interesting, because i applied to the phys. dept. thinking it was a good ticket to med school, so i didnt get that same feeling that you describe. i guess it could be true though, since they do take people with low stats (which would explain my acceptance). but im still shocked to see that only 5 or so would actually get into a medical school. isnt the program structured so that it gets most of its students into med school? i guess you would know better than i. either way i decided to not do the certificate program as i got into another post-bacc that i really wanted to go to (G'Town GEMS), but still i found your post interesting.

VCU has certificate programs in several departments such as physio, biochem, anatomy and pharmacology. The only competitive program is anatomy but their students do get into med school the following year or the next. Their program accepts about 10 and at least 80% will get into the class the following yr with the other 2 the next so its a great program. Physio is a money maker for the dept though. Alot of students in the program so competition. Maybe 5 in the program will get an interview while in the certificate program. And those that get accepted will be 1-3 so its tough. Many students stay to complete their masters (at least 15) and many of these students will get an interview. Acceptance though is up in the air and you never know. Maybe 10 out of these 15. But for all those that did the program and didnt get an interview all you can do is keep talking to the Dean of admissions every year and hear blah blah blah. Good if you have nothing else lined up. And they take apps very late. Hope that helps. And draino GEMS is a much better program!!!!!! Good luck. Have a friend who did it and is a M3 now.
