Hello all.
I was wondering if it would be I my best interest to do a diy post bacc. I am in a unique situation where I did not start out premed, so my sgpa (3.65) is much higher than my cgpa (3.39). My breakdowns are as follows. Cgpa 3.10/3.18/3.37/4.00 and sgpa 3.33/3.67/3.26/4.00. I was planning on taking about 12 credits before I apply, but wanted a second opinion. Thanks to anyone who replies

Hi thanks for sharing.

I think it depends on the outcome. How much improvement do you expect assuming you get a 4.0 for all 12 credits? If it's a big jump go for it.

Additionally, you could also do something on the side while doing the credits like research if you're up for it. I know research can be hard to get so if not research maybe some shadowing or other extracurricular activities.

I think either way sounds like a solid plan

12 credits would push me to a 3.44 cgpa 3.71 sgpa. I was planning on doing some sort of research depending on where I am.

Thank you for your response.

Are you applying MD or DO? do you have an MCAT yet?

You could take those classes, especially if they are upper division science courses.

Your best use of time outside of that would be bulking up your clinical hours and community service to those less fortunate.

Ideally MD, probably both given my gpa. Averaging 515 right now on my FLs.
If you want a decent chance at MD (and with a 515 MCAT or close to it, that's feasible), getting high grades in a post-bac could really help you.

Ok I will likely end up doing a post-bacc. Thank you to all who responded.
