Hey,

I am sort of shifting career paths from chemical engineering to hopefully a health related field. For this reason, I am enrolled in the SMP at Midwestern starting next week and studying for the MCATS all summer.

If I plan to apply to med school next year, what all should I be doing to become a successful candidate?

I am thinking

1) Good SMP grades, especially the med school classes
2) Good MCAT (when should I take it in order to apply next year?
3) Volunteer work? (is this neccesary? I only have lab research experience)

Thanks all for your input

yes to all the above. also, try to sleep with someone who's on an adcom at one of the med schools you're going to apply to, then blackmail them. not a proven method, but i think it can be effective.
