Post-bac???

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Do an informal post bacc and go DO imo. I personally think Carribean should be avoided like the plague unless you are talking about for a real vacation.

Thanks for the link Johnny... The main advantage I saw was being part of a structured system and seamlessly going into the institution's MD program. I'm afraid it's one of my very few options after my ridiculously low undergraduate GPA.

Unless you are deadset on MD, I would very strongly suggest you research DO and grade replacement. You probably could bring your gpa up into a doable range for DO within a year or so, add on a decent mcat score along with EC's and you should have a shot at US DO programs. A MILLION times better than going carribean IMO, especially since I think any matching benefits of going MD vs DO is completely negated and more by going Caribbean.

OK I saw your other threads. You got good advice. Do a local post-bacc or DIY post-bacc. Retake all the classes you did poorly in. Get A's in everything. Kill the MCAT. Amass ECs.

If you do this, by this time next year you have a real possibility of making into a US DO program.

Thanks for the advice and words of encouragement... One thing I am confused about is the retaking courses. Coming from a liberal arts background, I don't have any science prereqs to retake. It will all be new courses and I am confident I can do well in them. Do I retake art, music, etc because all of my C's and D's were in 1000 level elective courses? I don't have anything under a B in my upper-levels.

Oh, I was assuming you've already completed the prereqs but that you did poorly in them. Sorry.

Have you taken any science classes? How many, which ones, and how did you do in them?

I went to a small private college. Great school but science was non-existent there. I don't even have basic bio, chem, etc. The good thing I have going for me is that I can memorize anything. It was a double-edged sword during my undergraduate career because I literally never studied once for more than 15 minutes. Photographic memory. I could look at the girl sitting besides me notes for 10 minutes before my exam and I could just "see" the notes as I took the test. That's all I did when I was in school the first time. Sad, I know. Now I am truly interested and can't wait to put my renewed vigor to good use. I am in the process of teaching myself basic science via borrowed textbooks and MIT YouTube videos before I enroll in pre-req classes in the spring. It's not fun having limited options but I am willing to do whatever it takes.

Plan to apply in 2016. DIY postbacc for all the required science courses and retake a handful of the courses you got Ds and Fs in. Amass a lot of clinical and volunteer hours in the meantime.

Sounds like a solid plan of action Johnny. I appreciate all of your advice.
