I thought about posting this in the reapplicant/post bacc forums, but I thought I might get more feedback here...if it needs to be moved, I'll understand I guess 🙂

I am currently completing a masters in biology after applying last year with little success (somewhat due to a low GPA, particularly science, and somewhat due to a late application). I am in 4 upper level biology courses and was wondering what might be considered real improvement in my performance, in the opinion of an admissions committee. In undergrad, I had a few retakes in the physical sciences, as those classes were my biggest struggle, but I also had a few Cs in upper level bio courses. Are they going to want to see a 4.0 do you think or is somewhere around a 3.5 (evenly weighted- no Cs or anything) going to cut it? Just looking for some reassurance I think 🙂

I think that your recent performance will be fine. Just do the best you can, and apply EARLY!

Good luck.

I think I covered the applying earlier thing this year- I was complete at all my schools about 4 or so months earlier than last year (around mid October), so I'm hoping even that make a big difference. Thanks for the feedback. I'm probably slightly paranoid, thinking I need to overcompensate for my past.

You are in good shape then. You should relax a bit, being paranoid won't help anything (easier said than done). Just jump through the hoops, and hopefully you will have an acceptance before long. Again, good luck.

Two different advisors I spoke with said for post-baccs/masters to be helpful, at least grade wise, you need to be 3.5+. From my own experience, I set my goal for 3.75, we'll see how that turns out.

You applying earlier, and hopefully getting some more experience and rounding out your application more in the year between your first application cycle hopefully we push you over the hump and get you multiple acceptances :luck:. Good luck!

P.S. Costa coffee?? Those things are EVERYWHERE in London. I've been to the one by Mornington Crescent many a time.

Thanks for the good wishes! I will have a 3.5 at least and hopefully a little higher. I have been doing more volunteering and all that, so I am hopeful.

And the pic wasn't taken in London, but a small town in England about 2 hours away from London. LOVE COSTA COFFEE 🙂
