Hey all. I read that Finch accepts mostly their post bacc. I would like to know if you actually apply to this post bacc or are placed there. Also, what kind of post bacc is it? A pre-requisite one or a gpa booster? Thanks!

Also, can anyone give me the website for BU's SMP program, i think i went to the wrong place because there was a page error. Thanks again!

When I was applying for post-bacs I was accepted to both Finch and BU: I went for BU. This is because Boston requires a Masters thesis. At first I thought the extra work would deter me from the program but I decided that since this was my chance to do anything and everything to prove myself to adcoms, I was going to brave the challenge. It's definately a lot of work but also very doable. I'm glad I chose this option, especially since Boston is an amazing city and I enjoyed it a lot. As far as acceptances go, neither school can guarantee anything to post-bac'ers. The adcom looks favorable upon them if they do well and so that gives you an advantage, but their is no direct linkage. Can't speak for Finch but I know BU considers the SMP kids seperately from the general pool, so that is definately a leg up already. Here's the website: http://cobalt.bumc.bu.edu/current/Catalog/medsci/intro.htm

Try the Post-bacc forums. They have a lot of people very knowledgable about different programs in there and have some very good FAQS on there.

From what I heard, Rosalind Franklin has the highest acceptance rate for their post-bacc students. Drexel boasts a high number of their students go to med school in their IMS program, but my friend who is in the program now says that most actually wind up in DO schools and that the admin there actively tells its students to look into them. Not sure about BU post-bacc, but I really liked the school when I visited. North Chicago supposedly isn't the most happening place, but I'm sure its cheaper to live there than in Boston. Good luck!

Yes, it is true that many of the students who do their post-bac program at finch get into the school. Id say about 25% of our first year class is the AP kids (50 out of 200 or so). I did the AP program last year and we started out with around 100 kids and something like 60 got into our school. I few went a few of those 55 ended up going somewhere else. Basically, the admissions looks at how well you do during your AP year to determine if you are accepted. The APs take every class except anatomy and histo, plus they have a few classes of their own. Its a pretty intense program and you have to do better than the medical school average so its not easy. Its just that many of us were pretty determined and worked hard so they accepted a lot of us. I know a few ppl who couldnt cut it but luckily they got into another school before the program was over. If anyone needs more info, let me know. Just Private message me
