I was recently accepted to Case Westerns ms in medical physiology and Tulane's masters in pathology (molecular medicine) for an academic enhancer post bacc before applying to med school. I can't find much information on Tulane's program, but between the two is the case program considered more reputable because its been around longer? I'm worried about the class size (100+ students) vs the avg of 15 in Tulane's program...any advice/thoughts on what i should choose is appreciated
Also considering continuing taking informal post bacc classes at a local university to reach 32 hour rule for med schools like LSU and Wayne State- but concerned my gpa wont rise as much as it would in a masters (and i know grad gpas aren't weighed as much in admissions, but I think some schools average the two of them)- what would you do?
Just so you know, masters are not "post-bacc" in that post bacc implies undergraduate level courses that will contribute to your c and/or sGPA's. It sounds like you're talking more so about an SMP as you mention that these masters are for enhancement.
You also mention that you're concerned about GPA not rising as much as with a masters. Masters for MD won't take this into consideration. DO does, but depending on the coursework, masters can sometimes be more difficult (especially if an SMP, which this seems like). Thus, the masters would hurt you more than taking a DIY post-bacc at the community college you mention.
If you choose the SMP/masters route, I'd go with whichever option is either cheaper and/or shortest (i.e. 1 year vs 2 years).
What is your current cGPA and sGPA.
Have you taken the MCAT yet?
