Hi all, how much do adcoms really look at your uGPA if it is from a bachelors in business 5 years ago. Then you went back and got a 4.0 post bacc with all sciences.

2.63 Business Gpa with 2 math and 1 chem.

5 years later
4.0 post bacc with 47 credit hours of just science
I think my overall AMCAS gpa is like a 3.0 and science is a 3.45 because of those 3 UG science classes
For DO i think my science gpa is a 3.87

I had the opposite situation. I think, since your sGPA will be the one that stands out, you should be good. However, expect admissions committee to want to know what happened and what you learned from it. I used a few sentences in my essay to explain my situation without making the essay about it. I blended it with my message of perseverance. They will definitely review your coursework individually and collectively and I am sure the will see you incredible efforts.

Not everyone that attends med school always knew that they wanted to pursue it. That is the uniqueness of a non-traditional applicant. You changed careers and demonstrated commitment, discipline and dedication. If you want to feel more confident about your application, you might want to do really well on the MCAT and get solid LORs and EC activities.

Thanks for the reply! I have a unique story as to why that occurred. I'm also a war refugee but I'm not sure that puts me in underrepresented.
I have 400 clinical hours as an EMT
300 research hours
270 hospital ER volunteer hours
and like 60 hrs at a homeless shelter.
I'm taking the MCAT in April but on practice exams Iv'e been getting 510-511.
Do you think that puts me decently competitive for MD?

Certainly! You are in good shape. Those MCATs are solid. Something I did, I continued taking classes when time and money allowed. AdComs like to see upper bio courses. There is little you can do at this point for the general GPA. The more classes you take the more and more diluted the grades become. In the end, I had 125 credits from Bachelors and 51 from Columbia Post Bac. My sGPA by AMCAS is 3.55. If I aced 12 credits worth of science courses it would have gone up by decimal points.

Another recommendation is, if you are still pursuing any extracurricular, makes sure that you are setting yourself apart from everyone else or doing something extraordinary. Those are the little details that matter and will make you stand out.

I think overall you are a strong candidate. Make sure your story is honest and unique to you. The schools that respond to that are the ones worth considering.
