i think this is the most humiliating thing ever. why make u pay to travel when they dont want u??? why interview so many ppl when u know u wana reject a certain number of them???

my interview was racist and i was denied cuz i objected to it.

which school was this? you could have complained to the admissions office if you felt this way. I'm sure they would not have taken your comments lightly and probably would've given you another interview.

xenon,
i'm sorry to hear about your post-interview rejection. believe me, i know how it feels 🙁
if you truly think your intervier's racist attitudes affected your outcome, you should bring it up to the admissions committee. even if things cannot be changed, at least you might help someone in the future by doing so.

this was an ivy league school, and my interview was all about racial profiling and how she felt scared when she boarded a plane with ppl of my racial background.

beaurocracy will never let an applicants voice be heard. they did offer a 3rd interview but stressed that i cant prove the racial comments.

interviewer: "dont hate me cuz im jewish"
middle and end of interview.

Xenon-- I think that's absolutely outrageous for your interviewer to conduct herself in such a manner! I can't believe they are not taking your concerns seriously. But, you know, if that's the attitude of the school, maybe it's not a place you want to attend school.

what happened to you was horrible- i would be so angry...
do you really want to go to this school? i say that you complain again to the ad com.- i really can't believe that an interviewer would behave in such a way... totally file a formal complaint

i am also really curious as to what school it is...although i do have an idea...

I agree, you should definitely file a formal complaint even if it's too late to change the outcome. This woman might get removed from her interviewing duties at the least.

XENON-RAMZ--

I'm sorry about your interview. And if I were you I'd be upset, and I"m upset for you, so I'm not AT ALL defending this interviewer but it sounds almost too bad/extreme, which makes me think this person was just testing you, seeing how you'd handle stress, or inapropriate comments aimed at your culture or background.

Perhaps, she wanted to see if she could hit on a hot-spot, and if you could control your anger. I know that I've had my buttons pushed in different but similiarly sucky ways during my interviews. I've wanted to walk out, but being desperate to get in, I usually end up taking the crap with a smile/semi-leer --which doesn't mean you should. I'm just saying that I'm not sure you should believe that the interviewer was truly racist, or that you won't get in. It's probably true that you'll meet with some racist patients as a doctor and it might be a valid point of assessment to see if you can handle it and keep your composure. Maybe you can take it, as everything elsein this process, with a grain of salt.

Did you opt to take the third interview? Why/Why not?

It's probably a moot point since this doesn't sound like the kind of school that you would have wanted to go to, but if you'd had another interview they might have disregarded said "racist's" post report and removed it from your file

perhaps your jumping to illegitamate conclusions why you got rejected. WHy don't you call the admissions board and ask them for some suggestions on future applications, and perhaps it was YOU they rejected. Maybe they wanted someone that wouldn't jump to conclusions.

Thats really fu@#ed up. You should have requested another interview and made sure that you let the dean know that the person who interviewed you should not be allowed to interview anymore. Racist bastards suck.

please ppl

i dont gain anything out of lying on an anonymous comment board, and in fact i did take the 3rd interview because if i didnt that would essentially illegitimize my initial complaint.

as for anger-control and testing situation type interview, there is no one who can better handle such a situation as i did. diplomacy and understanding the other person in a debate is essential especially since i lived in authoritarian places in the world, where u cant really argue even if u felt u were correct.

the head acknowledged that making an interviewee feel awkward is not the point. he then offered the 3rd interview.

i have to repeat this quote" dont hate me cuz im jewish"

in essence its proof of prejudice: my ideology and thoughts were preassumed in a racist manner. if u were an interviewee, sending a complaint is a hard call. i am an international student. only 128 international students were given seats out of a total 16000 in the US. my chances are slim in the first place, and getting an interview is valuable. i am hoping UCLA will be more liberal being in the west coast and not follow some of its counterpart schools in the east coast.

Well Xenon, as a fellow "international" student (Canadian) congrats on your accomplishments thus far, and best of luck at UCLA!!!
🙂

I had a similar experience a few days ago. The interviewer (white) asked me "After 9/11 what did you learn about Islam?"

I do have brown skin, and look islamic, I AM NOT!

Is this really pertinent to me becoming a physician???

Do you guys think this is appropriate?? I want everyones opinion please!

(I wish to keep the medical school confidential)

Umm... I guess it's not totally on point to your becoming a physician to ask about 9/11 but I think in any kind of interview situation you are expected to be able to think laterally.

One interviewer of mine asked me, and I quote: " Why the hell should we care about AIDS in subsaharan Africa?"

I took a deep breath and answered him, I guess I could have taken offence, since both my parents are African immigrants but I suspect that wouldn't have helped my cause. I figured he just wanted to know what I thought... he was rather blunt though

dr ivy, did u apply to mcgill????? i did.

I did not, I'm Canadian but I'm not from Quebec so basically,I had no shot in hell
Mcgill prefers international and American students because they can charge them higher tuition...

im getting good vibes from McGill 🙂

i hope u get into ur top choice.

thanks xenon

yale gimme some waitlist love 😀
